Director of Product Development (Upholstery)

Our client is a leading provider of custom, high-end upholstery, known for their commitment to delivering heirloom-quality furniture. They specialize in offering a wide range of customizable options that blend contemporary and transitional styles, emphasizing craftsmanship, attention to detail, and the ability to create timeless pieces tailored to individual design visions.

Position Overview:

As the Director of Product Development, you will provide leadership and direction to the team responsible for taking new products from initial design concepts to production. This critical role involves overseeing the entire product development process, ensuring that all designs meet customer and brand standards for quality, comfort, and functionality. You will manage multiple product development projects, collaborate closely with design and merchandising teams, and work with suppliers to ensure timely and successful product introductions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and prioritize new product development projects, ensuring timelines and objectives are met.
  • Oversee the costing, sample making, and development of new product introductions.
  • Guide design teams in finalizing product styling and materials selection.
  • Evaluate prototypes and collaborate with merchandising teams to ensure quality standards.
  • Lead the transition from development to production, ensuring smooth execution.
  • Research new materials and production techniques to improve quality and profitability.
  • Continuously seek opportunities for process improvements and faster market delivery.

Qualifications:

  • Multiple years of experience in custom high-end upholstery product development and manufacturing.
  • Proven ability in project management, leading multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in Google Suites and Solid Works or 3D CAD software.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.
  • Multiple years of leadership experience in a fast-paced product development or manufacturing environment (Preferred)
  • Multiple years of experience in the furniture industry (Preferred)
  • Experience using Solid Works (3D CAD) (Preferred)
