Position Summary

The Certified Medication Aide is responsible for the safe administration of medications under the supervision of a licensed nurse while assisting with resident care and maintaining accurate documentation. This position requires strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to quality care and regulatory compliance.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Administer medications accurately and safely according to physician orders and facility policies.

  • Verify resident identity before medication administration and observe residents for medication effectiveness and potential adverse reactions.

  • Accurately document medication administration and promptly report medication refusals, errors, or changes in resident condition.

  • Review Medication Administration Records (MARs) to ensure completeness and accuracy.

  • Assist with medication inventory, storage, and ordering while maintaining proper security and accountability for medications, including controlled substances.

  • Communicate effectively with licensed nurses, physicians, pharmacy staff, residents, and family members regarding medication-related concerns.

  • Assist residents with activities of daily living as needed and provide compassionate, resident-centered care.

  • Maintain compliance with infection prevention, HIPAA, and all federal, state, and facility regulations.

  • Promote a clean, safe, and respectful environment for residents, visitors, and team members.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by nursing leadership.

Qualifications
  • Current North Carolina Certified Medication Aide (CMA) certification required.

  • Current North Carolina Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification in good standing preferred.

  • Current CPR certification required.

  • Previous experience in a skilled nursing or long-term care setting is preferred.

  • Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Basic computer proficiency and experience with electronic health records preferred.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the interdisciplinary healthcare team.

  • Professional demeanor with the ability to maintain confidentiality and provide compassionate resident care.
