Adult and Circulation Services Librarian, Thompson Public Library (Thompson, CT)
The Thompson Public Library is seeking a full‑time Adult and Circulation Services Librarian to join our team! The Adult and Circulation Services Librarian is responsible for all aspects of circulation and adult services. They assist patrons in the use of library resources, facilities and equipment, and oversee the adult department.

- Knowledge of the principles and practices of public library functions
- Knowledge of adult literature and materials
- Knowledge of supervisory methods, including work delegation, scheduling, evaluating performance, and maintaining morale
- Extensive knowledge of computers, strong internet skills, and ease with new technologies
- Ability to learn how to operate the online circulation system, fax machine, copier, printer, scanner, and laminator
- Experience with online programs such as Gmail/Google Docs, Canva, Ingram, Lib Guides, OCLC/Worldcat, and social media
- Willingness to learn new technology
- Experience with research databases

- Perform collection development tasks in conjunction with the Technical Services department
- Create and implement library programs for adults
- Supervise, train and assign work to Library Clerks in accordance with policies and procedures
- Perform and oversee all aspects of circulation tasks in accordance with established procedures, including service calls with Bibliomation and the return of materials to shelves
- Coordinate projects such as shelf reading, weeding, inventory, and shifting collections
- Order books through an online system and oversee the periodicals collection
- Coordinate Homebound lending program
- Manage magazine collection in collaboration with Technical Services Librarian
- Prepare statistical reports for areas of responsibility
- Attend workshops and meetings
- Supervise the entire library, including personnel and facilities, in the absence of the Library Director
This position includes occasional four‑hour Saturday shifts, along with one evening shift per week. The position is scheduled for 35 hours with benefits. A full job description can be found on the town's website.
QualificationsMaster's degree in library and information science from an ALA‑accredited institution and two years of relevant library work experience. A combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the responsibilities of this position may be considered in lieu of education and experience requirements. Applicants currently enrolled in an ALA‑accredited library and information science program will be considered.
