SummaryWelds field‑erected carbon steel tanks and assemblies with a variety of welding techniques including but not limited to flux‑core, sub‑arc, and stick as specified by layout, welding diagram, or work order by performing the following duties. Also monitors work of less experienced welders. OUR TANKS CANNOT LEAK.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesMust be a safety‑first employee. An OSHA 10 is a prerequisite for employment. The company will provide access to the class at its expense; however, time spent taking the class will not be paid. Individuals are expected to prioritize safety for themselves and others.
- Weld A‑36 thick gauge steel – 3/16 in. to ½ in. typical thickness with appropriate welding rod.
- Set welding machine to proper settings for various material thicknesses.
- Make multiple‑pass welds capable of passing X‑ray examination on these thicknesses.
- Perform lap welds for floor and roof of tanks.
- Learn and produce multiple‑pass horizontal and vertical seams of tanks.
- Accurately position large steel sheets, up to 5/8 in. × 8 ft. × 30 ft.
- Use and accurately read a tape measure. Read blueprints and isometric drawings and understand the scope of work.
- Work with the job‑site Tank Superintendent to select proper weld methods. Learn proper flux‑core, sub‑arc, and stick techniques for certain types of welds on tanks.
- Be capable and comfortable working at heights.
- Examine weld for bead size, continuity, undercut, and other specifications.
- Lay out, position, and tack weld work pieces.
- Chip or grind off excess weld, slag, or spatter.
- Monitor, correct, and ensure construction quality.
- Grind down welds for proper surface prior to laying down the next weld pass.
- Keep work area clean and free of debris on a daily basis.
- Use common sense to work safely and follow company safety policies and procedures at all times.
Assists the Tank Superintendent by monitoring work of less experienced welders on the crew.

Physical Demands and Work Environment- Work required hours (can exceed 10 hours per day).
- Work in outdoor weather conditions year round.
- Lift up to 90 lbs.
- Walk, bend, stoop, squat, reach overhead in a field environment.
- Work with and beside a construction team.

Education and/or ExperienceMust pass company welding test. Must become a certified welder within six months or less. Less than high school education; or up to six months related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid driving license is a plus.
Language and Mathematical SkillsAbility to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Add and subtract two‑digit numbers and multiply and divide by 10 and 100’s. Perform calculations using units of measurement, weight, and volume.
Reasoning AbilityApply common sense to carry out simple one‑ or two‑step instructions.
