Job Overview
The Forklift Operator will be assigned to one of five areas:
Receiving, Shipping, Treating Plant, Stacker, or Kiln. The operator may be asked to fill in other areas as needed. Regardless of the area assigned, the Forklift Operator is responsible for moving wood bundles throughout the production process while maintaining environmental and safety compliance at all times.
- Ensure all environmental and safety procedures are followed and report all unsafe or non-compliant issues.
- If assigned to Receiving or Shipping, unload and load trucks in a safe and appropriate manner.
- If assigned to the Treating Plant, load and unload tram cars and stage material for the next treating charge(s) in a safe and appropriate manner.
- If assigned to Stacker, load material onto the stacker infeed to be processed. Remove material from the stacker and stage for kiln loading. Remove finished goods and place them in the appropriate area of finished goods storage in a safe and appropriate manner.
- If assigned to Kiln, load and unload kiln charges as directed by the Kiln Coordinator or Kiln Operator in a safe and appropriate manner.
- Will flow to different areas of the plant as needed.
- Move safely and appropriately throughout the yard without damaging material.
- Place spacers on the ground and between bundles as required and pick up spacers.
- Attend all training sessions and safety meetings.
- Ensure they are trained on the specific lift they are using.
- Perform daily forklift checks, maintain the Daily Forklift Operators Checklist and notify leadership of any forklift issues.
- Identify various wood sizes and treatments.
- Computer duties as necessary.
- Other duties as directed.
- High School Graduate or GED recommended.
- Ability to learn and obtain a forklift operating permit.
- Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to use thinking and reasoning to solve problems.
- Ability to read and write and communicate effectively with others.
- Ability to work effectively with people regardless of their age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, or job type.
- Ability to demonstrate behaviors conforming to Hoover’s set of values and accepted standards.
- Ability to be driven to perform tasks at their best using personal initiative.
- This position does not require the use of a computer.
Indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions. It could be hot, cold, humid, and/or rain.
Training RequirementsImmediately upon hire or assignment, the operator will undergo safety and environmental training. Annual training is required for all programs.
