Job Title
Severe Needs Para Educator
Job SummaryAssists students with severe special education needs by providing individualized support, implementing curriculum adaptations, managing behavior strategies, and delivering technical and physical care. Works with licensed special education staff to prepare materials, monitor progress, and record achievements in both in‑classroom and online/remote environments.
Shared Job Tasks- Assist students with classroom activities, adapting curriculum for individual needs and ensuring skill generalization.
- Implement accommodations, supports, modifications, and procedures outlined in each student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP); maintain progress and behavior records.
- Prepare materials, administer tests, attend to paperwork, and support classroom events such as fire drills.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Monitor students and reinforce appropriate behavior; assist with de‑escalation and crisis interventions.
- Provide technical physical care, including toileting, grooming, feeding, and medication administration following training.

- Assist students with synchronous or asynchronous online classroom activities and curriculum accommodations.
- Prepare assignments for home completion and support students in completing work.
- Maintain records of progress and behavior in conjunction with licensed staff.
- Support students in troubleshooting technology issues.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Works under the supervision of a School Principal or designee; no direct supervisory responsibilities.
Minimum Qualifications- High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma.
- Criminal background check and fingerprinting.
- Completed at least two years of college study, an associate’s degree, or equivalent academic assessment.
- Mandatory biennial Crisis Prevention Intervention training for Autism, Behaviorally Disordered, or ILC assignments.
- Medication administration training as required.
- Basic knowledge of office equipment and Microsoft Office.
- Intermediate verbal, written, interpersonal, and organizational communication skills.
- Ability to modify curriculum, implement behavior modification techniques, and manage stressful situations.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and work independently or in groups.
- For DHH Program: understanding of hearing loss impacts on learning.
- For Homebound Program: ability to set boundaries and collaborate with families and healthcare providers.
- Work location may change based on organizational needs.
- Medium physical strength (lifting up to 50 pounds).
- Primary indoor work with moderate noise levels.
- Prolonged standing, walking, bending, reaching, and climbing; occasional squatting and overhead work.
- Requires good eye/hand coordination and visual concentration.
- Experience in public education and with diverse student populations.
- Commitment to cultural competence and continuous improvement.
- Associate’s degree.
- Experience working with students with autism, behavior challenges, medically fragile conditions, or intellectual disabilities.
- CPR and First Aid certification.
