Description
Are you passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of students with autism and complex learning needs? We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Special Education Teacher to join a supportive, student-focused educational environment in Thornton, Colorado.
This is an excellent opportunity to work with a small caseload of elementary‑aged students while leading a collaborative team and implementing individualized strategies that promote student growth and success.
Position Details- Position: Special Education Teacher (Moderate/Severe Needs)
- Location: Thornton, CO
- Schedule: Full‑Time, 40 Hours per Week
- Student Population: Elementary (K–5)
- Caseload: Approximately 10 Students
- Program Type: Specialized Autism/Center‑Based Classroom
- Provide specialized instruction to students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and similar support needs
- Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Utilize AAC devices, visual supports, and evidence‑based instructional strategies
- Foster a structured, positive, and inclusive learning environment
- Collaborate with families, related service providers, and school staff to support student success
- Supervise, train, and support a team of 5–6 paraprofessionals
- Maintain accurate documentation and progress monitoring
- Active Special Education teaching credentials
- Minimum of 1 year of experience serving students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
- Experience writing and managing IEPs
- Experience working with students with moderate to severe disabilities
- Ability to lead and collaborate with classroom support staff
- Experience in specialized learning support or autism‑focused classroom settings
- Experience working with non‑verbal students
- Familiarity with AAC devices and visual communication systems
- Previous experience managing and mentoring paraprofessionals
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) training required within the first 90 days of employment
- Small caseload for individualized student support
