Description

Are you passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of students with autism and complex learning needs? We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Special Education Teacher to join a supportive, student-focused educational environment in Thornton, Colorado.

This is an excellent opportunity to work with a small caseload of elementary‑aged students while leading a collaborative team and implementing individualized strategies that promote student growth and success.

Position Details
  • Position: Special Education Teacher (Moderate/Severe Needs)
  • Location: Thornton, CO
  • Schedule: Full‑Time, 40 Hours per Week
  • Student Population: Elementary (K–5)
  • Caseload: Approximately 10 Students
  • Program Type: Specialized Autism/Center‑Based Classroom
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide specialized instruction to students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and similar support needs
  • Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Utilize AAC devices, visual supports, and evidence‑based instructional strategies
  • Foster a structured, positive, and inclusive learning environment
  • Collaborate with families, related service providers, and school staff to support student success
  • Supervise, train, and support a team of 5–6 paraprofessionals
  • Maintain accurate documentation and progress monitoring
Qualifications
  • Active Special Education teaching credentials
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience serving students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Experience writing and managing IEPs
  • Experience working with students with moderate to severe disabilities
  • Ability to lead and collaborate with classroom support staff
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in specialized learning support or autism‑focused classroom settings
  • Experience working with non‑verbal students
  • Familiarity with AAC devices and visual communication systems
  • Previous experience managing and mentoring paraprofessionals
Additional Requirements
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) training required within the first 90 days of employment
