JOB PURPOSE SUMMARYThe Special Education Teacher – Significant Support Needs provides intensive specialized instruction, intervention, behavioral supports, and case management services to students with significant cognitive, behavioral, communication, adaptive, and/or functional needs. The teacher collaborates with families, educators, related service providers, and support staff to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), monitor student progress, and support the development of academic, functional, communication, behavioral, and independent living skills.

- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
- Must possess or qualify and receive within 30 days of hire a Colorado Special Education Generalist endorsement or license appropriate to assignment
- Must complete CPI, Safety Care, or district‑approved de‑escalation training within 30 days of hire
- Teachers assigned to grades K‑3 must meet all Colorado READ Act training and evidence‑based reading instruction requirements established by the Colorado Department of Education
- Teachers serving dually identified multilingual learners may be required to hold, obtain, or work toward a CLDE endorsement consistent with district and state requirements
- Experience providing specialized instruction to students with disabilities; developing and implementing IEPs; inclusive practices, co‑teaching, and MTSS interventions; collaborating with general education staff and families; supporting students with significant cognitive disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, emotional disabilities, or complex communication needs; implementing behavior intervention plans (BIPs); supervising paraprofessionals
- Knowledge of core academic subject and state curriculum standards
- Bilingual endorsement preferred
- Develop and implement lesson plans that meet district curriculum requirements and include accommodations for individual students
- Plan and use instructional strategies, materials, equipment, and technology appropriate to student learning styles and needs
- Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities
- Collaborate with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students per IEP guidelines
- Work with staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods
- Implement Tier I instructional practices aligned with core academic standards and provide differentiated instruction for all learners
- Collaborate with instructional teams to provide targeted Tier II interventions within the MTSS framework
- Use technology to strengthen teaching and learning
- Plan and assign work to instructional aides and volunteers and oversee completion
- Deliver specially designed instruction based on individual student profiles and disability‑related needs
- Utilize progress monitoring data to adjust instructional strategies and interventions
- Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs in accordance with IDEA, ECEA, and district requirements
- Serve as case manager for assigned students and coordinate special education services
- Deliver instruction aligned with student IEP goals and objectives
- Monitor student progress toward IEP goals and communicate progress to families and teams
- Coordinate and participate in annual reviews, reevaluations, eligibility meetings, manifestation determinations, and transition planning activities
- Collaborate with related service providers, general education staff, administrators, and families to support student success
- Maintain accurate records, documentation, progress reports, and service logs
