Position: Educational Interpreter, Deaf and Hard of Hearing 2026-2027 School Year

Position Details

Educational Interpreter – Deaf and Hard of Hearing.  School Year. 1.0 FTE, 9 months, 40 standard hours per week. Hourly range $29.84 – $36.79 (Step 1 – Step
8).

Responsibilities
  • Interpret and transliterate all academic instruction, films, assemblies, conferences, student meetings, IEP meetings, field trips, extracurricular activities, and support services in and out of the classroom for Deaf/Hard of Hearing students.
  • Tutor Deaf/Hard of Hearing students individually or in small groups, reinforcing concepts, assisting with assignments, modeling language, reinforcing vocabulary, study skills and life skills, teaching the role of the interpreter, and the students’ rights.
  • Collaborate with the education team—including mainstream teachers, teachers of the Deaf, and support staff—to share information on communication modes, tutoring strategies, educational goals, curriculum content, and student rights.
  • Provide translation for counseling, disciplinary interactions, hearings, therapy sessions, parent/teacher conferences, staff meetings, and district meetings.
  • Perform related duties as assigned, including preparation of instructional materials, clerical tasks, and documentation for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing program.
  • Qualifications
    • Degree from an Interpreter Preparation Program (Associate’s or Bachelor’s).
    • Proficiency in Case/Controlled Signed English (CASE), Pidgin Signed English (PSE), and/or American Sign Language (ASL).
    • Preferred: one year of educational interpreting experience. No experience required.
    • Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.5 or higher.
    • Current clean criminal background check.
    • Commitment to keep licenses, registrations, and certifications current.
