Buena Vista Correctional Complex.

This Correctional Support Trades Supervisor II (CSTS II) is the Boiler House Lieutenant for the Buena Vista Correctional Complex; a Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC) prison facility in Buena Vista, CO. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to: ensuring the safety and security of the general public, staff and inmates; ensuring safe, efficient and compliant operation of facility Boiler House systems and supervising assigned staff and inmate work crews.

This position maintains the safety and security of facility and work sites; through clear and accurate communication; trains and guides staff and inmates in the proper use of controlled items, keys, tools, equipment and chemicals. Through conscientious observation, clear communications and adherence to agency Administrative Regulations, facility Implementation Adjustments, Operational Memorandum, and the Code of Penal Discipline, this position promotes a safe and secure environment.

This position is subject to facility call back or working additional hours or shifts to maintain safety and security.

This position provides safety and security through the supervision of assigned staff who supervise and train inmate workers, promoting a high level of performance by setting the work standard according to agency mission, vision, and values.

This position trains and instructs staff and inmates in the appropriate use of all relevant tools, equipment and procedures to ensure efficient, safe, and effective completion of assigned tasks by stressing safe construction practices and the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for self, staff, and inmates; and by exemplifying a professional workforce that embodies honesty, integrity and ethical behavior.

Staff Supervision – participates in the hiring process by interviewing candidates and making recommendations; by preparing and conducting performance plans and evaluations; assigns tasks, monitors and inspects work progress and ensures assigned staff receive required training; position coaches and mentors staff in regards to agency supervision and other processes in preparation for career growth and opportunity.

Inmate Supervision – This position participates in the interview and hiring process in order to ensure appropriate placement of inmates on work crews and that training needs are met; ensures inmate workers are trained in all aspects of Boiler House operations (correct methods, tool use and care, reading blueprints, and project planning); while monitoring project progress, inspecting work and ensuring timely completion of tasks.

This position ensures inmate evaluations are complete, tracks and calculates inmate hours and pay, creates, schedules, and assigns tasks, and resolves informal grievances according to agency policy while reducing inmate idleness and creating real life work opportunities that prepare inmates for community reentry.

May provide supervisory duties in the absence of other supervisors.

This position ensures the safe, efficient, compliant and cost effective execution of assigned tasks and projects by performing "hands on" instructional work alongside staff and inmates. This position is responsible for facility boiler house, water treatment plant and assists with HVAC systems, ensuring proper operations through constant monitoring, testing, recording, and certifying, and by completing corrective, preventive, and predictive maintenance, and routine inspections of those systems.
