Material Handler

Position Overview

The Material Handler at RK ensures smooth and efficient shop operations by safely loading, unloading, and transporting raw materials, parts, and fabricated components throughout the facility. This role is essential for staging materials for production, maintaining accurate inventory, and delivering the right materials to the right teams on time—supporting quality and productivity across all projects.

You’ll work closely with fabrication crews, shop leads, and logistics staff to keep workflows organized and efficient. The job involves operating forklifts, overhead cranes, and other equipment, as well as performing routine checks to ensure materials are stored and handled according to safety standards.

Coordinate off-loading with crafts and quality control for controlled materials. Place materials in proper area according to storage and handling lists to initiate storage. Change forms and document new location when necessary. Load, unload and move material within or near warehouse or worksite. Read work order or follow oral instructions to ascertain materials or containers to be moved. Load and unload materials onto or from trucks, trays, racks and shelves by hand or forklift.

Be the primary trainer for new employees.

• Inspect and maintain storage yards and warehouses for cleanliness, etc. and report problems to supervisor.
• Issue material by field requisition, locate and distribute material as directed by craft foreman and direct supervisor.
• Ensure documentation is complete and accurate and check other employee's paperwork for errors before completion.
• Identify materials and items being received or shipped and ensure they are the correct items.
• Maintain accurate records for any and all inventory transactions.
• Move materials to or from storage or worksites to designated areas, using hand truck or power device.
• Locate and prepare materials for outbound shipment and notify supervisor when shipment is ready.
• Load and unload materials within warehouse or storage facility.
• Utilize hand trucks, forklifts, hoists, conveyors or other handling equipment to move material.
• Coordinate and perform shipment loading and complete required paperwork.
• Perform additional assignments per supervisor’s request.
• May require delivering material to jobsites as needed; acceptable Motor Vehicle Report required for this task.

• Objectives based on established guidelines, processes and operating procedures.
• Relevant past experience is not necessarily required.
• 3+ Years of experience in Forklift and Material Handling ideally in heavy steel required.
• Experience with All Terrain extended boom and forklift required, including Telehandler.

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: stand, sit, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, and a variety of office equipment.
• Occasionally may need to reach, stoop, or kneel.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work.
