Serve as the primary health consultant and provide direct care necessary to support student health needs in the school setting, within the parameters of the Colorado Registered Nurse (RN) licensure. Identify health needs of students through appraisal, health histories, screening programs, observations, conferences with parents, health provider and school staff. Must be able to provide care to students, including medically fragile students independently;
follow doctors' orders and health care plans; collaborate with other district RNs, school staff, physicians, and parents to provide high quality care for students with health and medical needs. The RN will be able to provide direct care to students which may include, but not limited to tracheostomy care, centilator care, gastic tube feedings, and other complex medical care. The RN may be asked to do other duties as assigned.
RN licensure required: SSP(Special Service Provider)-School Nurse CDE(Colorado Department of Education) licensure required or the ability to obtain (BSN required).
- Provide training, delegation according to the Nurse Practice Act, and supervision of staff in providing healthcare including, but not limited to standard precautions, infectious disease guidelines, medication administration, diabetes care, and seizure disorders.
- Provide patient care including monitoring student health, administering medications, providing medically necessary procedures including, but not limited to bladder catheterization, gastric tube feeding, tracheotomy care, and ventilator care.
- Provide medical expertise in schools; collaborate with health care providers, parents and school personnel to identify, develop and implement applicable Plans that mitigate health-related obstacles to learning.
- Review student health questionnaires and updates; ensure student health records are in compliance with federal, state and district guidelines; coordinate vision and hearing screenings. Responsible for ensuring state reports are timely and accurate.
- Maintain required licensures/certifications; attend all required meetings, trainings, and professional development as directed by the district supervisor. Keep abreast of best practices and develop and maintain the necessary skills.
- Perform other job related duties as assigned.
- Graduation from an accredited program resulting in an RN licensure.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a clinical health care setting, including gastrostomy feeding, bladder catheterization and tracheotomy care.
- Experience as a school nurse preferred
- Current Colorado RN License required.
- Appropriate Colorado Department of Education licensure/certification or the qualifications to obtain.
- Criminal background check required for hire.
- Ability to travel among district facilities.
- CPR/AED and healthcare provider certifications.
Preference given to candidates with ELL Training and/or an ESL or (LDE) Linguistically Diverse Education Endorsement.
Salary Information (for External Candidates)All salary placement on our Certified Salary schedule is dependent on the employees' education and/or work experience. Special programs teachers of students with significant support needs, structured learning services or affective needs, audiologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, school nurses, school psychologists, school social workers, and speech language pathologists shall receive experience credit for each full year of previous experience and are not limited to ten (10) years as described in Appendix A, Item
3. Additionally, one (1) step for each full year, as described in this Appendix, of service in the district as a contracted certified, classified, in-building substitute, and/or administrative employee for educators beginning a new certified contract or returning to a certified contract.
