Responsibilities

Safety and Security:
Maintain safety and security of the facility and work sites; conduct inmate counts, searches, escorts, and transport; manage tool inventory; enforce agency regulations and policies.

Supervision:
Provide supervision of assigned staff and inmate workers to ensure timely, safe, and effective completion of projects; schedule work, assign tasks, monitor progress, conduct performance evaluations, and mentor staff.

Compliance:
Research and implement procedures to maintain compliance with all applicable agency regulations and local, state, and federal standards and codes (ACA, IPC, CDPH, EPA, ADA, OSHA). Train inmate workers on safe equipment use.

Operations:
Ensure safe and reliable operation of all plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration, central plant, and other services serving the complex; oversee new construction, repairs, and preventive maintenance; coordinate with other units and trades.

Inventory & Budget:
Justify and request operating budget; track inventory and expenses; maintain records of projects, parts, and equipment; plan for tool and equipment replacement.

Additional duties may include performing duties required by the facility’s policy, such as working additional hours or shifts, weekends, holidays, or in various shift schedules.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Five (5) years of professional experience in building trades construction and maintenance, including corrective, preventive and predictive maintenance.
  • Three (3) of those five years must be specialized in plumbing, pipe‑fitting and steam‑fitting trades with emphasis on design, installation and maintenance of water delivery, sewage treatment and boiler operations.
  • Alternatively, a combination of plumbing experience and correctional experience may satisfy the five‑year requirement under the criteria listed in the announcement.
  • Substitutions: A degree from an accredited non‑correspondent college, university or vocational school in plumbing, boiler operations, construction management, or related field may substitute for required experience on a year‑for‑year basis.

  • Knowledge of building construction and irrigation trades.
  • Ability to read blueprints and plan and implement a construction project.
  • Intermediate computer keyboarding skills and ability to use inventory and e‑mail systems.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders and work in high, tight and confined spaces.
  • Self‑control, emotional stability, and mental resilience under pressure.
  • Ability to read and comprehend the English language and communicate fluently in English both verbally and in writing.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Active Journeyman or Master Plumber license issued by the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA).
  • Active Colorado Stationary Engineer Certification.
  • Current Backflow ASSE Certification.
  • Boiler experience, knowledge, and/or training.
