This college‑wide position is based at Westminster Campus and requires travel to Larimer Campus (Fort Collins) once per week and to Boulder County Campus (Longmont) as needed. The position works four 10‑hour days per week with Friday as a required workday. Typical days off are Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, though the Monday day off may be adjusted based on departmental needs.
Work hours are 6:00 am–4:30 pm. A company vehicle will be provided.
The Facilities department ensures a safe, clean, and functional environment for faculty, staff, and students. Responsibilities include electrical service, installation, and repair of all equipment necessary for the proper operation of the college’s facilities. The role covers HVAC maintenance, motor control circuits, fire alarm systems, computer automation, material requisition planning, preventive maintenance, and equipment repairs.
Duties Analyze, Perform, and Troubleshoot Equipment/CircuitsAnalyze electrical equipment and circuits—motors, VFDs, motor starters, lighting circuits, power distribution panels, fire alarm and security systems, door openers, emergency lighting, and related components. Perform preventive maintenance, including thermal imaging, tightening lugs, and resolving maintenance deficiencies. Provide monthly meter readings, adjust lighting timers, and maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of electrical codes. Follow PPE requirements for arc‑flash protection.
Replace Lamps/Ballasts & Troubleshoot Walkways/Parking LotsReplace burned‑out lamps (fluorescent, incandescent, high‑pressure sodium, mercury vapor, metal halide) and ballasts. Repair buried walkway and parking lot wiring. Pursue energy‑efficient upgrade opportunities through XCEL Energy rebates.
Control Equipment for Computerized Automation SystemsOperate, program, troubleshoot, and install control equipment for HVAC and fire alarm systems. Install low‑voltage conduit and wiring for other computer equipment. Assist other departments with low‑voltage wiring issues, remove non‑rated wiring, run new circuits, and improve operational efficiency.
Remodeling/Emergency SituationsDesign, fabricate, and install electrical circuits, lighting fixtures, and equipment for remodeling projects. Develop from blueprints, install computer line conditioners and isolation circuits, and ensure compliance with NFPA and other building codes. Review construction documents, provide recommendations, and respond to after‑hours emergencies, assisting fire department and emergency crews as required.
Preventive MaintenanceConduct preventive maintenance by inspecting, cleaning, and adjusting motor starters, VFDs, motor control circuits, lighting, door openers, and computer automation systems.
Minimum Requirements- Current, valid journeyman electrician license issued by the Colorado Electrical Board
