Correctional Support Trades Supervisor I (CSTS I)
The position is a General Maintenance Supervisor at the Buena Vista Correctional Complex, a Colorado Department of Corrections prison facility in Buena Vista, CO.
ResponsibilitiesSafety and Security – The position maintains safety and security of facility and work sites; through clear and accurate communication trains and guides inmates in the proper use of controlled items, tools, equipment and chemicals; enforces security procedures by conducting work site searches and monitoring workplace environment and inmate behavior, paying close attention to changes, inappropriate activity or potential problems; initiates verbal reprimands when warranted and, if necessary, physically controls inmates with the proper application of restraints or "use of force" techniques;
monitors, supervises and escorts inmates according to policy and limits inmate access to restricted areas; performs inmate counts and transportation; responds to emergency situations such as fights, fires and escapes according to policy and writes and submits required reporting; through conscientious observation, clear communications and adherence to agency Administrative Regulations, facility Implementation Adjustments and the Code of Penal Discipline, the position promotes a safe and secure environment.
Operations – The position ensures the safe, efficient, compliant and cost effective operations of building and grounds construction, janitorial operations, repair or maintenance.
Building Maintenance – The position is responsible for the maintenance of facility buildings to include carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, remodeling and repairs; provides instruction and training to inmates in modifying and remodeling of prison buildings that are constructed of various materials (including steel, rock, brick, masonry, wood, plaster and pre‑stressed concrete); provides training in the design, installation and repair & maintenance of all facility structures;
trains inmate workers in the proper use, care and accountability of applicable tools, equipment, chemicals and machinery to ensure safe, compliant and efficient completion of projects.
Grounds Maintenance – The position is responsible for the maintenance of facility grounds to include design, installation and daily maintenance and repair of irrigation pumps, sprinkler heads and lines, pipelines, valves, supply…
