Job Overview
Correctional Youth Security Officer – Direct Care/Essential role. Provides direct and engaging supervision of youth in DYS state‑operated secure facilities. Position located at 13500
E. Fremont Place, Centennial, CO. Requires Colorado residency.
- Provide direct care, safety, and security of adjudicated and pre‑adjudicated youth in a secure setting.
- Monitor, support, and enforce behavioral management plans (Behavioral Contracts, Individual Growth and Change Plans).
- Supervise daily activities, youth orientation, crisis interventions, de‑escalation, use of physical response/restraint, and conduct searches.
- Document observations, incidents, unit activities, and maintain logs and database records.
- Teach, coach, and redirect youth as part of the Youth Center’s behavioral management program.
- Complete all required training (Pre‑Service Academy, Youth Center training, online modules) and maintain competency.
- Demonstrate the Division’s values of Non‑violence, Open Communication, Social Responsibility, Growth and Change, Social Learning, Democracy, and Emotional Intelligence.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum age 21 years.
- Valid, unrestricted Colorado driver’s license.
- No felony convictions or history of domestic violence.
- Physical ability to perform essential duties (standing, climbing stairs, physical intervention).
- Completion of mandatory vaccinations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- College education in behavioral health or juvenile justice.
- Experience with adjudicated or detained youth in secure or behavioral settings.
- Facilitation of psycho‑educational groups.
- Experience with adolescents dealing with trauma.
- Positive leadership experience (mentoring, coaching).
- Knowledge of verbal de‑escalation and motivational techniques.
- State service experience.

- Self‑control, composure, and stress‑management.
- Clear communication and respectful interaction.
- Situational awareness, hazard identification, and security reporting.

Shift‑based: evenings, nights, weekends, holidays. Shifts may be 8, 10, or 12 hours. Mandatory overtime may be required. Work may be required during inclement weather.
Conditions of Employment- Assignment to a specific facility with scheduled shift work.
- Travel for youth transportation, training, and alternate sites.
- Flu and other state‑mandated vaccinations required.
- Continuing employment contingent upon completion of DYS training and annual training.
- Background checks (CBI, FBI, Diana Screen, etc.) required.
- Ongoing compliance with Division of Youth Services and Colorado Department of Human Services policies.
