Basic FunctionUnder the direction of the Dean, Department Chair or Program Director, the Adjunct Faculty Member is responsible for providing academic instruction to students for the assigned undergraduate and/or graduate courses.
Representative Duties- Provide academic instruction through lecture, lab, or performance courses; assess and develop cognitive abilities and higher-order thinking through assignments and activities in one-on-one, classroom, and distance-mediated settings.
- Advise and instruct students regarding programs of study, other institutions of higher education, lifelong learning resources, and effective study skills; refer students to support services as appropriate.
- Observe and evaluate student performance in meeting course objectives and learning outcomes; provide timely feedback to student inquiries in class, online, or during office hours.
- Plan and organize instruction according to approved course outlines and learning outcomes to maximize student learning in alignment with department and university mission/goals.
- Maintain accurate records of enrollment, attendance, academic progress, curriculum, and outcomes; prepare and submit related data and reports promptly.
- Evaluate and select instructional materials such as textbooks, manuals, software, and tools in collaboration with discipline faculty; order materials per campus bookstore procedures.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Current theory and practice within the subject discipline.
- Principles and best practices of effective teaching.
- Demonstrate thorough and accurate knowledge of the subject field.
- Deliver curriculum in various learning styles.
- Show sensitivity to diverse academic, social, economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
- Address needs of students with disabilities.
- Integrate current and emerging instructional technologies into the learning process.
- Maintain professional standards that protect student confidentiality.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing with tact, patience, and courtesy.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Possession of a master’s degree from a recognized institution or equivalent experience and professional recognition.

Physical Abilities- Manual dexterity to operate office equipment; speaking to exchange information; sitting or standing for extended periods; pushing, pulling or lifting light objects; bending and reaching to retrieve files.
- Indoor classroom environment; subject to visiting a variety of classroom sites on campus.
