Basic Function

Under the supervision of the Director of Pearson Library, the Evening Circulation Coordinator supports Pearson Library’s patron-centered services in circulation, course reserves, stacks maintenance, and building access and usage. As the supervisor on-duty, the person in this position ensures that the safety and security functions of Pearson Library are in place. With the help of student employees, this person will routinely perform stacks management functions, compile reports and data, assist patrons, and collaborate and cross-train with other Library departments as necessary.

Representative Duties

  • The primary staff member in the evening hours is responsible for creating a welcoming and safe environment for library patrons and staff through active listening, leading by example, and referring questions as necessary.
  • Use the library management system, OCLC World Share Management Services ( WMS ), to circulate library materials, and manage patron accounts.
  • Assists with circulation policy and procedure enforcement and formulation.
  • Manages the lost/overdue workflows to reintegrate library materials into the collection, or handle charges placed on library and university accounts.
  • Assists with hiring, training, daily supervision, scheduling, and evaluating the performance of student assistants. Prepares and alternates leading student training meetings. Develops and continually updates training materials for student assistants.
  • Assists with the management of the Course Reserve service by maintaining and updating the reserve shelf to ensure that the materials are available in a timely manner. Maintains reserve usage statistics and in collaboration with the Head of Collection Management Services or Director of Pearson Library, and ensures compliance with copyright laws as they pertain to course reserves.
  • Ensures library security by maintaining ongoing communication with Campus Safety as needed in the evening hours.
  • Coordinates regularly with Public Services staff and other areas to communicate news and updates.
  • Completes special projects and other duties as assigned.

  • Manage tasks in a dynamic library environment with frequent interruptions, demonstrating adaptability, and the ability to shift focus while maintaining productivity and meeting deadlines.
  • Interpret and apply general administrative and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Direct the training of student workers and implement constructive supervision of their tasks.
  • Work a flexible schedule that includes evenings and weekends, ranging between 20-30 hours per week depending on the academic term.
Minimum Qualifications

Any combination equivalent: A Bachelor’s degree from a recognized college or university and one year of experience in a customer-facing service position, or three years of experience in a library support position.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with library management operating systems and applications such as OCLC World Share.
