Basic Function:
The California Lutheran University Graduate School of Psychology (GSoP) invites applications for a full-time, Assistant Professor tenure-track position in our APA-accredited PsyD Program in Clinical Psychology beginning in Fall 2027. The PsyD Program is a secular program that values science and social justice and directly affirms sexual and gender minority inclusivity.
Under the direction of the Dean and Program Director, the Assistant Professor is responsible for providing academic instruction to students for the assigned graduate courses. The Assistant Professor is to serve as an academic advisor to students; contribute to department and university activities; serve on faculty or university committees; engage in scholarly activities, and/or creative endeavors.
The successful applicant for this position will demonstrate outstanding commitment to doctoral teaching and dissertation research mentorship. While the position is open to applicants with demonstrated expertise and capacity to teach across any area of health service psychology, we particularly invite applicants with a background in neuropsychology, health psychology, sports psychology, forensic psychology, or cognitive and personality assessment. Additional duties include developing a program of research that engages graduate students, academic advising, dissertation supervision, clinical supervision of doctoral trainees, participating in ongoing program development within the PsyD program, serving on faculty and university committees, and establishing collaborative relationships within the University and broader community.
The Graduate School of Psychology is comprised of a PsyD program in Clinical Psychology, Master of Science programs in Clinical Psychology and Counseling Psychology (MFT emphasis), and a large community counseling center that provide low-fee Spanish and English clinical services both in person and telehealth (over 10,000 appointments annually). For faculty interested in research with clinical populations, the clinic provides individual, couples, family, group, and child services to community members with mild to moderate mental health issues and currently offers specialized programs in dialectical behavior therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and Spanish-speaking services.
The PsyD program accepts 25 students per cohort and distinguishes itself by having small classes, a caring faculty and staff, state of the art facilities and technology, and a rigorous curriculum designed to train students in accordance with APA’s Profession-wide Competencies. The program is committed to training students to integrate science and practice, develop competency in research and scholarship, and appreciate human diversity by serving the underserved.
