Basic Function

Under the direction of the Dean and the Associate Dean, the Lecturer or Assistant Professor is responsible for providing academic instruction to students for the assigned undergraduate and/or graduate courses. The Lecturer or Assistant Professor is to serve as an academic mentor to students; serve on faculty or university committees; engage in scholarly activities and/or creative endeavors. Furthermore, the newly hired Sports Management faculty member is expected to contribute and support the vision for the program particularly towards creating innovative curricula, serving student needs towards professional development, being on par with program grading expectations, as well as being a team player towards program needs that include, but are not limited to: event promotion, club involvement, cross-course afforded opportunities, meetings, building and maintaining industry relationships, and positive leadership scholarship.

Representative Duties

  • Primary responsibilities for this position include teaching Sports Management courses at the undergraduate, and possible graduate level.
  • 24 units for Assistant Professor, Lecturer for 24 or 32 units/year. E
  • Teaching responsibilities could include courses in two or more of the following areas:
    Sports Analytics, Sports Ethics and Law, E-Sports, Sports Facilities, Design, and Management, and/or Introduction to Sports Management. E
  • Within that context, the expectation is to design creative assignments and activities in one-on-one and classroom instructional settings to foster hands-on, active learning for students that will develop their expertise in the subject matter. E
  • Observe and evaluate student performance in meeting course objectives and student learning outcomes through assignments, projects, discussions, and examinations; provide feedback promptly to student inquiries in class, online, or during established consultation office hours. E
  • Maintain current, accurate records of course enrollment, attendance, student academic progress, course curriculum; prepare and submit grades, data, and reports related to the course and student progress promptly. E
  • Provide a course syllabus to students in each class within the first week of the class, as outlined in the faculty handbook. E
  • Adhere to the responsibilities related to teaching, advising and service as outlined in the faculty handbook. E
  • Attend and participate in committees and meetings. E
  • Participate in marketing, promotions, and recruiting efforts for the program via events, experiential learning, student-led competitions, and more. E
  • Evening and weekend hours may be required in part of experiential learning components. E
  • Perform related duties as assigned. E
  • Adhere to the responsibilities related to teaching, advising, service, and scholarly, professional, and creative activities, as outlined in the faculty handbook. E
  • Maintain an active research program that involves undergraduates. E
