Process Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated process engineer to join our team focused on the production of novel nanomaterials. In this role, you will be responsible for managing and improving existing processes and the people who are responsible for operating those processes, as well as designing and implementing new processes, primarily the syntheses and modification (purification and functionalization) of boron nitride nanomaterials.
These processes include, but are not limited to, plasma-based synthesis reactors, furnace-based thermal processing methods, and various wet processing methods. This role will also be expected to lead efforts involving process optimization, as well as implementing and managing process control and data acquisition on production process equipment. The successful candidate will be a proactive self-starter able to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced work environment in a small but growing company, where their work will have an immediate and direct impact.
High levels of teamwork, ownership and accountability, commitment, and integrity are non-negotiable. The candidate must have a hands-on approach to managing their responsibilities and getting the desired results. Our company does not offer visa sponsorship.
- Direct the design and execution of experiments for optimization of synthesis, purification, and functionalization of BN nanomaterials.
- Display a commitment to safety in developing and following process safety protocols and guidelines.
- Design, implement, commission, manage, and improve all processes related to the manufacture of BN nanomaterials from raw materials to finished products.
- Collaborate well with R&D in developing processes that facilities scale-up and effectively support commercial activities.
- Collaborate effectively whenever needed with all teams and individuals throughout the company
- Maintain any and all engineering documentation, including SOPs, drawings, and product and process specifications.
- Prepare internal and external documentation for processes including SOPs, reports, publications or patents as needed.
- Minimum BS degree in Chemical Engineering, (graduate degree preferred)
- 8-16 years of hands-on process engineering experience in specialty chemicals, (preferably colloids and suspensions, and more preferably nanomaterials. Experience with plasma or flame-based processes is a plus).
- Strong understanding of particulate materials, their properties, and safe handling procedures.
- Experience with process design and scale-up. (Experience in pilot operations a plus. (Experience in designing and building facilities a plus.))
- Able to create P& parts drawings. Able to create SOPs.
- Working knowledge of Design of Experiments methodologies and application for problem solving and optimization. (Six-Sigma and LEAN training a plus.)
- Good grasp of process control, automation, and data acquisition fundamentals.
- Must have some familiarity with basic electronic circuits. (Familiarity with radio frequency equipment is a plus.)
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Must be able to manage a small team of technicians
- Must possess the willingness and ability to perform independent research to fill any knowledge gaps in areas related to the manufacturing processes. This includes staying current with the latest industry trends and advancements, such as machine learning.
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
- Familiarity with equipment acquisition, installation and maintenance, including design and fabrication of custom parts.
This position is 100% on-site with a salary range of $140k - $170k DOE. We offer Medical, Dental, Vision, and a 401k matching program.
