As a District Planning Specialist

- Develop and prepare construction plans, drawings, and/or circuit maps; design electrical distribution plans, identify required resources, provide cost estimates, and follow through on policies, procedures, rules, rates, completion dates, and ensure compliance of electrical designs. Perform relevant calculations with the latest SCE standards and request studies through Engineering when necessary.
- Interact with a diverse customer base to meet electrical design needs and deliver successful outcomes for both the customer and SCE on assigned projects.
- Participate in small to medium‑size residential, commercial, and industrial projects; assist in determining scope of work, method of service, and construction methods for distribution overhead and underground facilities; manage work orders/projects and maintain current understanding of industry practices and standards.
- Provide technical support for licensing and certification proceedings related to new distribution/transmission lines and substation sites.
- Stay up to date with current industry practices, standards, and customer needs.
- Identify environmental requirements and coordinate necessary project components with other departments, customers, governmental bodies, and external sources.
- Support project drawings and budget by monitoring internal and external customer timelines and expectations.
- Manage multiple projects using project‑management principles, tools, and techniques effectively under tight time constraints, shifting priorities, and with minimal supervision. Manage project risks, resolve issues, and handle escalations impacting scope, timeline, and budget (work order pricing).
- Perform field inspections to gather data relevant to the planning and development review process and verify that projects comply with approved plans.
- Maintain the protection of physical, financial, and cybersecurity assets and manage private customer data and other highly sensitive information with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.
- One or more years of experience in Electrical Utility Distribution/Transmission/Telecommunication Design, Distribution/Transmission/Telecommunication Line Construction, or Engineering discipline.
- Possess a valid Class C Driver's License.
- Basic understanding of engineering principles, construction standards, and industry practices.
- Experience with design tools such as CAD, GIS, or similar systems.
- Experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Experience in customer service, project coordination, or similar support roles.
- Training or education applying technical information (engineering, pole loading, drafting, construction, mapping, math, science, IT).
- Ability to read or create simple distribution or technical drawings.
- Ability to adapt to competing priorities while maintaining accuracy.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across teams (clients, peers, management, agencies).
- Completion of a Planner Utility Certification Program.
- Experience managing customer or stakeholder interactions in a technical, construction, or utility environment, including providing clear information, addressing inquiries, and coordinating solutions.
- Experience in underground utility design.
- Experience in customer service resolution.
