At Frontier Aerospace, the role of Design Engineer is central to the development of engineering solutions. Individuals in this role will be responsible for developing detailed component and assembly solutions using sketches and 3D modeling software to model and draft product definition, ensuring feasibility, functionality, and producibility of Propulsion System products and supporting equipment.

A successful candidate will be able to creatively and wholistically apply engineering, manufacturing, and analysis principles (Mechanical Design, Structures, Thermal, Materials, Physics, Fluids, Design for Manufacturing) to solve challenging problems. They will also have the necessary communication skills to convey complex engineering challenges in a simplified and concise manner, both to internal and external customers.

Responsibilities
  • Generate production fidelity detailed component drawings that meet functional, manufacturability, and customer requirements.
  • Apply principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics to components and subsystems to create functional and reliable products that operate safely.
  • Create engineering product definition including models, drawings, and specifications for components, assemblies, and systems, in a timely and effective manner.
  • Interface with vendors and in-house fabrication/assembly teams during design, prototype builds, and hardware validation testing.
  • Employ fully defined dimensioning schemes, use GD&T and statistics to ensure cross product compatibility, and verify mechanical fit using tolerance stack-up analysis tools.
  • Provide ongoing technical support to production effort with engineering change orders to make design changes that improve producibility or reliability.
  • Work collaboratively with all disciplines to prepare and present customer briefings, design reviews, and other pertinent programmatic information.
  • Additional responsibilities may be levied on the Design Engineer to meet critical business needs and operational deadlines. Additional duties can include hardware assembly, validation testing, engineering planning, hardware kitting, courier activities and more.
Relevant Experience and Requirements
