Network Administrator Position Category: Staff (Non-Exempt)
FLSA: Non-exempt FTE: 1.00 Location: Thousand Oaks Basic Function

Under the direction of the Sr. Director of IT Infrastructure, administer, support and maintain the University campus network and telephone/voice services; coordinate network upgrades, adds/moves/changes for telecommunication systems.

Representative Duties
  • Administer, maintain and troubleshoot the University network, telephone, and voice services.
  • Program, configure, maintain, and install network equipment (switches, routers, access points, VoIP phones, cameras, etc.).
  • Document product installation and configuration to aid future installations and troubleshooting.
  • Assist technical support staff and Network Administrators in troubleshooting issues with the network, phones, wireless access points, security cameras, and access control.
  • Monitor network throughput to identify issues and improve performance.
  • Install, splice, terminate, test, and label copper and fiber, phone, and network cabling in underground pathways.
  • Maintain job-related equipment, tools, and vehicle.
  • Ensure that all network and telephone equipment is updated in the asset‑management system.
  • Support the installation of phone and internet circuits supplied by outside vendors.
  • Attend development opportunities including conferences, seminars, and online presentations to enhance expertise and learning.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge Of
  • Networking services and common protocols (TCP/IP, SMB, IGMP, POP/SMTP, BGP, OSPF, RSTP; Ethernet media; network topology; LAN/WAN; wireless networks and related protocols).
  • VoIP phone systems (Mitel and eFax solutions).
  • Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to discuss problems with customers and ensure quick, proper troubleshooting.
  • Operating systems: intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server 2016‑2022; intermediate knowledge of Windows 10/11; intermediate knowledge of Apple OS 11 and newer; beginner‑to‑intermediate knowledge of Linux/Unix.
  • Computer proficiency and understanding of Microsoft Office tools and related software.
  • Computer hardware and peripherals, including hard drives, optical drives, memory, power supplies, printers, scanners, mobile operating systems, barcode scanners, drawing devices, and inventory maintenance techniques.

  • Perform physical tasks such as stooping, bending, climbing ladders, pulling wire, kneeling, and crawling for repairs, adjustments, or installations.
Minimum Qualifications

Associates degree or three years of experience with network and voice cabling, phone system operation, VoIP phone and voicemail programming, and adds/changes.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Relevant bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Experience with Mitel VoIP phone and voicemail programming, adds, and changes.
  • Experience with datacenter and teledata room facilities.
  • Experience with telecommunications systems, including voice switching and voicemail systems.
  • Five years in a customer‑interfacing Help Desk/Service Desk role.
Licenses and Other Requirements

Valid California Driver’s License.

Physical Abilities

Operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, communicate in person, by telephone, and by email; maintain a stationary position for extended periods; move or transport light objects; retrieve or store files.

Working Environment

Indoor environment with frequent interruptions; works flexible hours; may operate a vehicle to conduct work.

Hiring Range

$37.00 ‑ $40.00
