The City of Thousand Oaks is seeking a motivated and collaborative part-time Information Technology Technician
- Data Analytics (Hourly City Worker) to support the Information Technology Department. This part-time position offers an excellent opportunity for students and early-career technology professionals to gain hands-on experience working with enterprise applications, data analytics, automation, and technology solutions that support City operations while working alongside experienced IT professionals.
This is a part-time position working approximately 15-25 hours per week, not to exceed 29 hours per week or 1,000 hours in a fiscal year (July 1st– June 30th).
Assist with a variety of assignments and day-to-day tasks under the guidance of IT Department staff, including:
- Support the development, maintenance, and enhancement of enterprise applications, reports, and data solutions
- Assist with data collection, validation, analysis, and reporting to support City departments and business operations
- Develop and maintain reports, dashboards, data queries, and automated processes using approved City technologies
- Support application integrations, data imports/exports, and API-based solutions
- Troubleshoot application, data, and reporting issues while documenting findings and recommended solutions
- Assist with application testing, system implementations, upgrades, and ongoing maintenance activities
- Provide responsive technical assistance and customer support to City staff
- Create and maintain technical documentation, procedures, and user guides
- Manage multiple assignments while maintaining accuracy, organization, and attention to detail
- Perform other related duties in support of the Information Technology Department
Ideal Candidate:
- Progress toward, or completion of, a degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Information Technology, or a related field
- Experience with data analysis, reporting, or application development through coursework, internships, or professional experience
- Working knowledge of relational databases, SQL, Microsoft Excel, and data analysis concepts
- Familiarity with programming or scripting languages such as Python, VBA, or Java Script
- Exposure to APIs, system integrations, or automation tools is desirable
- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical staff or end users
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team
