Job Overview

Postdoctoral Fellow – Biocatalysis (2‑year fellowship). The role focuses on developing artificial intelligence and machine learning tools for enzyme discovery and the engineering of biocatalysts to optimize manufacturing routes of small‑molecule and hybrid drugs in Amgen’s pipeline. Start date will be Q4 2026 or Q1 2027.

• Develop and optimize manufacturing routes for small‑molecule and hybrid drugs.
• Apply cutting‑edge protein design tools to biocatalyst design.
• Develop and train models for enzyme discovery from metagenomic databases and for active‑learning enzyme evolution campaigns.
• Publish applications of the developed models on model systems.
• Interact and collaborate with scientists across various Amgen functions.

• Basic:
  PhD at time of appointment.
• Preferred:
  • Demonstrated independent design, execution, and interpretation of experiments with a solid first‑author publication record.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to multitask and work collaboratively in a cross‑functional team environment.
  • Experience with enzyme design and computational prediction for biocatalysis.
  • Experience with protein language models, structure‑based protein design (e.g., proteinMPNN), or other recent developments in ML for protein design.
  • Experience with collaborative deep‑learning workflows, including code development in PyTorch, Git version control, and code reviews.
  • Background in computational biology, computational chemistry, machine learning, or a related field.

Annual salary range: $81,178–$109,830 USD (excluding Puerto Rico). Base salary is complemented with a Total Rewards Plan that includes health and welfare, retirement and savings, discretionary bonus, stock‑based incentives, flexible work models, and comprehensive benefits packages.
