Pet Smart’s Pet Associate (Retail Sales Associate) is responsible for engaging with pet parents and their pets while providing positive experiences and upholding the company’s vision, mission, values, and strategy. This role also shares responsibility of store cleanliness and maintenance, pet safety standards, and the direct care of pets within our store.
Job Responsibilities- Engage with pet parents and their pets in person, over the phone, at the sales register, and online.
- Greet pet parents and answer their questions throughout the store.
- Prepare online orders for pickup and ensure a smooth experience.
- Care for store-owned pets, including feeding, watering, and cleaning habitats.
- Maintain store cleanliness standards.
- Assist with weekly price changes and promotional pricing.
- Stage and sort new products to match sales floor plans.
- Replenish and recover products on the sales floor.
- Recommend, inform, and sell merchandise, services, and live pets.
- Administer pet medications as directed by a veterinarian.
- Promote events like adoption weekends and charity events.
- Ensure a safe environment for staff, pets, and customers.
- Take immediate action if a sick or injured pet is identified.
- Assist in various store areas as needed.
- Participate in our culture of Belonging and Recognition.
- Follow all company policies and procedures.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to react under pressure and maintain composure.
- Stand, walk, climb ladders, and handle objects; reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, and hear; vision abilities include depth perception.
- Lift and move up to 50 pounds frequently, and more than 100 pounds occasionally with assistance.
- Exposure to moving mechanical parts, pet hair, moderate noise levels, and live animals.
