Depending on the assignment, duties may include street repairs, storm drain maintenance, concrete work, traffic control device installation, landscaping, irrigation upkeep, and building custodial or repair work.

The Position

The Town of Tiburon’s Maintenance Workers support the construction, installation, repair, and maintenance of Town-owned streets, parks, landscaped areas, and public facilities. Depending on the assignment, duties may include street patching and repair, storm drain maintenance, concrete work, traffic control device installation, grounds and landscaping maintenance, irrigation system upkeep, and building custodial and repair work. Employees may be assigned across divisions at the discretion of supervisory staff.

The Ideal Candidate

The Town seeks a dependable, safety-focused candidate with hands‑on experience in construction, landscaping, or facilities maintenance. The ideal candidate works independently, takes initiative, communicates effectively with coworkers and the public, and takes pride in maintaining Town infrastructure and public spaces.

This individual understands street and park maintenance practices, traffic laws, and safe vehicle and equipment operation. They are skilled in using hand and power tools, small power equipment, and larger heavy equipment, and has essential knowledge of safe work practices, hazardous material handling, and basic computer use, including email and internet applications.

The candidate must be able to perform sustained outdoor labor and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers and the public. Additionally, the candidate must possess and maintain a valid California driver’s license and a driving record that qualifies the employee to operate Town vehicles in accordance with Town policies and insurance standards.

Physical Demands & Working Conditions

Requires the maintenance of physical conditioning necessary to operate motorized equipment and vehicles. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand; talk or hear; walk; sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl;

and smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Duties associated with this position are conducted predominantly outdoors and may include exposure to noise, grease, fumes, heavy equipment, elevated work areas, inclement weather, and hazardous materials.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

$70,188 - $81,240 annually, DOE.

Retirement: The Town contracts with CalPERS for the provision of a retirement pension program for its miscellaneous and public safety employees. “Classic Members” - 2% at 55 for employees currently enrolled in a reciprocal or CalPERS classic retirement plan. “New Members” or “PEPRA Members” - 2% at 62 for employees new to CalPERS or with a six‑month or longer break in a CalPERS or reciprocal retirement plan.

Town employees pay the employee’s portion of retirement cost. Employees enrolled in the “Classic Members” plan will pay 1% of the employer’s share of retirement contributions.

Cafeteria Benefits Plan: The Town will provide a monthly allowance towards medical, dental, life insurance, and long‑term disability insurance. If the full amount is not used, any remaining portion up to $400 per month will be deposited into the Town’s Deferred Compensation Plan. If the cost of benefits exceeds the allowance, the difference is paid by the employee through payroll deductions.

The cafeteria benefit for calendar year 2026 is $2,487.80.

Vacation & Sick Leave: Employees get twelve (12) working days of vacation leave per year for years 1 through 5, increasing after the end of the 5th year, and receives twelve (12) days of sick leave annually.
