SUPERVISION RECEIVED

The Director of the Nursing Program reports to the Chair of Natural Sciences and Nursing.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

The Director of the Nursing Program is responsible for hiring and evaluating adjunct instructors to teach NRS courses.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform all essential duties as outlined in the Heidelberg University Faculty Manual.

Facilitate and promote student learning within the Nursing Program through sound administrative practices and the creation of an environment that promotes academic rigor, instructional innovation, and facilitates access to comprehensive support services to students.

Teach 4 courses per academic year, typically 2 courses per semester (Fall, Spring) in the RN to BSN program.

Utilize innovative and collaborative teaching methods in support of the program’s mission and learning objectives that promote nursing knowledge, laboratory techniques, critical thinking, and communication competency within the discipline.

Work closely with faculty, staff, and students as well as health care providers, community partners, and other educational institutions; manage the meetings of the Community of Interest.

Serve on other nursing advisory boards.

Maintain membership and attend meetings of the Ohio Council of Deans and Directors.

Ensure that the nursing program complies with accreditation policies and completes the applications for accreditation.

Facilitate Heidelberg’s 1-2-1 Nursing Programs with Terra State Community College and develop partnerships with external agencies; maintaining contracts among agencies and Heidelberg’s Nursing Program.

Coordinate, administer, and direct all nursing program activities, including academic advising, fiscal planning, and grants.

Contribute to school, programmatic, and interdisciplinary initiatives, including recruitment and retention efforts and curriculum development.

Participate in campus recruitment events, including meeting with prospective students, participating in open houses, new student orientation, and other recruitment events.

Collaborate with faculty within the School of Natural Sciences and Nursing to promote student success, assess the curriculum, and promote the Nursing program.

DESIRED ATTRIBUTES AND QUALIFICATIONS Education and Professional Experience

(A) Master’s degree in nursing, education, or related field.

(B) Minimum of seven years of successful experience as a registered nurse with at least three of those years in nursing administration or nursing education in the last five years.

(C) Minimum of two years of experience teaching in pre- or post-licensure nursing programs.

(D) Current Ohio active state license with the Ohio Board of Nursing.

Preferred

Education and Experience
  • Ph.D. in Nursing or DNP.

  • Experience as a nursing program administrator, director, or department chair.

  • Experience with CCNE accreditation.
