Job DescriptionTitle: Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA)
Schedule: Temporary, Full-Time
Location: NCOESC service areas of Marion
Job Summary: Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) who use meaningful activities to help children and youth participate in what they need and/or want to do in order to promote physical and mental health and well‑being. Occupational therapy addresses the physical, cognitive, psychosocial and sensory components of performance. In schools, occupational therapy practitioners focus on academics, play and leisure, social participation, self‑care skills (activities of daily living or adaptive skills), and transition/work skills.
The OTA collaborates with school personnel to identify needs and provides instruction on environment analysis and modification with a goal of reducing barriers to participation.
Primary Duties:
- Under the supervision of a licensed occupational therapist, the OTA screens, performs student reassessment, implements the treatment plan, and performs intervention.
- Under the supervision of a licensed occupational therapist, the OTA collaborates with the team to identify supports, modifications, and accommodations that are required to support student success.
- Provides intervention that focuses on the following fundamentals:
- Conducting activity and environmental analysis and making recommendations to improve access, progress and participation in the school environment.
- Reducing barriers that limit student participation within the school environment.
- Providing assistive technology to support student success.
- Supporting the needs of students with significant challenges, such as helping to determine methods for alternate educational assessment and learning.
- Helping to plan relevant instructional activities for ongoing implementation in the classroom.
- Preparing students for successful transition to post‑high school employment or independent living.
