Position SummaryPerform molecular diagnostic laboratory testing according to laboratory standard operating procedures (SOPs). Testing materials include animal specimens that may contain a variety of infectious diseases.
Responsibilities- Conduct diagnostic and surveillance testing, including handling specimens, nucleic acid extraction, performing PCR reactions and post‑PCR analysis, data interpretation, and reporting of test results.
- Assist in maintenance of lab space, lab equipment, supplies, and inventory.
- Assist research projects including planning & conducting experiments, analyzing data and reporting results.
- Participate in required proficiency tests.
- Train and coach new employees and visiting students/scholars.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of molecular biology including nucleic acid extraction; PCR; real‑time PCR; digital PCR; gel electrophoresis; and Sanger sequencing analysis.
- Ability to work in a team setting and provide general assistance to other personnel.
Extended periods of sitting conducting bench work and some light lifting.
