The Research Associate is housed in the Department of Animal & Dairy Science at the University of Georgia’s Tifton Campus. The role coordinates and supports applied research and demonstration activities in beef cattle nutrition and forage/grazing management. Responsibilities include implementing research protocols, managing daily trial operations, overseeing livestock and field components, guiding graduate students and temporary staff, and preparing reports and outreach materials.
Responsibilities- Coordinate and implement beef nutrition and forage/grazing research trials in accordance with protocols.
- Oversee daily research operations: data collection, sample processing, animal handling, and overall trial management.
- Manage livestock and research resources: select and maintain herds, monitor health, tag animals, and make grazing decisions.
- Maintain forage systems: fertilization, spraying, harvesting, and scheduling grazing and hay production.
- Scout and evaluate pastures and forage systems to inform management decisions.
- Procure and manage materials, supplies, and field inputs required for trial execution.
- Collect rumen samples and perform laboratory analyses of feed and forage ingredients.
- Organize and manage research data, conduct statistical analyses, and develop written reports and presentations.
- Interpret research findings to produce data‑driven recommendations, manuscripts, and outreach publications.
- Coordinate field days, tours, and outreach events, including agenda planning and logistical management.
- Support research proposals and grant submissions, drafting narrative sections and ensuring compliance with sponsor guidelines.
- Train and supervise graduate students and temporary labor in field equipment use, livestock handling, and research protocols.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Process and reconcile purchase card transactions per University of Georgia financial policies.
- Monitor cardholder activity to maintain adherence to spending limits and guidelines.
- Prepare and submit monthly reports and reconciliations promptly.
- Resolve discrepancies and work with vendors to correct billing issues.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related scientific field and at least 2 years of professional experience.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time‑management skills.
- Proficiency with equipment operation and experimental procedures.
- Research writing, funding acquisition, and proposal development skills.
- Understanding of basic statistical analysis and data management.
- Work in various environmental conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
- Ability to lift heavy objects.
- Driving required.
- Position involves the use of a purchase card.
- The appointment is limited‑term, expected to end 3 years after the start date; renewal is contingent on grant support and performance.
- Background investigation and credit check may be required.
