Assistant Store Manager, Petsense

Overview

This position is the second in charge of store operations, reporting to the Store Manager. Responsibilities include providing leadership and direction to the store and salon team, promoting a positive customer shopping experience, and performing operational activities throughout the store. The role promotes a safe and productive work environment for team members, customers, and vendors, and involves training team members on policies and procedures.

It is essential to be available, flexible, adaptable, and service-oriented to fulfill the following requirements:

• Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
• Work scheduled shifts with varied hours, days, nights, weekends, and overtime as needed.
• Uphold and promote a safe and productive work environment by following and enforcing policies and procedures.
• Support selling initiatives (TEAM): thank the customer, engage with the customer and/or pet, advise on products or services, and make the experience memorable.
• Perform a combination of duties as part of daily operations, including but not limited to:
• Assist Store Manager in store operations (driving sales and profit, customer loyalty, planning, prioritization, delegating tasks).
• Assist Store Manager with Team Member/Salon Team Members counseling, hiring/staffing decisions, scheduling, training and development, and maintaining a productive work environment.
• Serve as store leader in the Store Manager’s absence (PTO, LOA).
• Order live goods and store supplies.
• Train and certify Team Leaders in receiving processes.
• Lead and coach team members to grow sales and profitability.
• Drive sales and profit through top-line sales, merchandising initiatives, expense control, and asset protection.
• Execute basic, promotional, and seasonal merchandising activities and planogram execution.
• Perform opening/closing procedures.
• Manage banking, cash handling, and reconciliation processes.
• Supervise cash register operations and ensure proper cash handling procedures.
• Assess store conditions and assign duties; organize and prioritize workflow.
• Recover merchandise and participate in freight processing.
• Perform regular and promotional price changes and markdowns.
• Resolve customer complaints to ensure a positive experience.
• Adhere to loss prevention standards and respond to alarms as needed.
• Communicate responsibilities and financial goals to team members; assist with policy guidance and procedure application.
• Assemble merchandise and perform janitorial duties.
• Assist customers with loading purchases and ensure the safety and well-being of live animals, including sanitation of holding tanks and care of live animals as required.
• Complete all documentation related to duties described above.
• May be required to perform other duties as assigned.

Experience: Previous retail leadership experience is required. Experience with pet/live animal knowledge is strongly preferred. Supervisory experience is preferred. Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license.

Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred but not required. Regardless of education level, effective reading, writing, and counting abilities are necessary.

• Shifts vary by store but are typically not less than 4 hours and may exceed 8 hours.

• Indoor floors and outdoor lots are hard surfaces; lighting and temperature are adequate.
