This position is 30 hours per week. Mon-Thurs 3:30pm-9:00pm, Friday: 7:30am-3:30pm

Job Summary

The Campus Safety Monitor is responsible for supporting a safe and secure learning environment by providing a visible presence, monitoring campus facilities, enforcing institutional policies, and assisting students, employees, and visitors. This position conducts routine rounds throughout the campus, responds to safety concerns, reports suspicious activity, assists with emergencies, and provides exceptional customer service to the campus community.

MAJOR DUTIES
  • Maintains a visible presence by conducting rounds throughout assigned areas on campus either on foot or in a vehicle or golf cart
  • Monitors campus buildings for unauthorized personnel during opening and after closing hours
  • Assists with traffic flow and the enforcement of college parking regulations
  • Monitors campus activities and identifies safety hazards, security concerns, or policy violations
  • Responds promptly to requests for assistance, safety concerns, alarms, disturbances, and emergency situations
  • Reports suspicious activity, unsafe conditions, property damage, and other incidents to appropriate personnel
  • Monitors surveillance cameras
  • Inspects fire extinguishers
  • Responds to emergency medical situations and administers first aid within the scope of his/her training
  • Responds to intrusion and fire alarms
  • Assists with traffic control, parking management, and crowd control during campus events and activities
  • Provides escorts for students, employees, and visitors when requested
  • Assists with emergency response procedures, including fire alarms, severe weather events, lockdowns, evacuations, and other campus emergencies
  • Provides directions, information, and general assistance to students, employees, and visitors
  • Promotes positive relationships with the campus community through professional and respectful interactions
  • Attends required training and safety briefings
  • Serves as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) as defined by The Clery Act, forwards reports of crimes to the Campus Police Department, and participates in annual CSA training
  • Participates in assessment, planning, budgeting, and professional development
  • Performs other duties as assigned
COMPETENCIES
  • Knowledge of college policies, procedures and regulations relating to campus safety and security including emergency response plans
  • Knowledge of and skill in the operation and maintenance of security systems, fire alarm panels and panic alarm systems
  • Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays and day, evening and morning shifts
  • Ability to accurately identify and distinguish visual details, including colors, markings, and other environmental indicators
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions and directives
  • Ability to quickly observe situations and make an appropriate response
  • Ability to learn methods to de-escalate and respond to situations involving staff, students and visitors
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Possess and maintain CPR/AED Certification
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
