AboutThis Role Project Engineer

The Project Engineer is responsible for utility engineering in distribution and transmission teams. This role incorporates the utilization of various drafting and design programs (PLS-CADD/AutoCAD) to ensure that the deliverable meets client standards and specifications.
There are four main groups within the Potelco Engineering Department:
Transmission, Joint Facilities Notification (JFN), Cable Replacement and Maintenance, and Overloaded Transformer Elimination Program (OTEP) where you may use your skills. The pay for this role is a range of $40‑$48/hr.
- Provide electric utility engineering for operation and maintenance projects, including the interpretation and development of distribution designs congruent with utility standards.
- Perform pole line analysis on existing or new transmission/distribution structures in relation to scope of work using pole line analysis tools to assess structural integrity of new or existing structures, and ensuring clearances from existing structures as needed.
- Calculate and draft designs, which include an understanding of voltage regulation, electrical load calculations, system protection, and fuse coordination for distribution systems.
- Input bill of materials for assigned scope of work.
- Manage the project life cycle using work order management systems.
- Assist the utility engineering team by performing field visits to gather information, as required.
- Perform administrative functions and other tasks as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science Degree (BS) in Engineering, Construction Management or related field from an accredited educational institution OR 4‑6 years related experience and/or training in lieu of education or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 1+ years of power utility industry experience or related field.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, with strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals and information, journals, technical procedures, and data.
- Ability to write business correspondence and communicate effectively.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from other managers, clients, customers, and local permitting agencies.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts, such as those commonly found in business transactions.
- Ability to create and explain financial models and forecasts.
- Ability to apply basic algebra, geometry, and engineering principles.
- Ability to solve complex problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
