Substation Project Engineer

Position Overview

Electrical Consultants, Inc. (ECI) is a leading power engineering consultant firm that provides engineering, system planning and studies, technical consultation, project management, surveying, environmental planning, commissioning/testing and construction services to electric utilities, energy developers and industrials throughout the U.S. Our experience includes system voltages from 4.16 kV through 765 kV. ECI is seeking a motivated Project Engineer to join our Portland, OR office (physically located in Tigard, OR).

• Conceptual, preliminary, and final detailed design of new, upgraded, and expanded substations, including material procurement, construction, and commissioning/support through energization.
• Development and delivery of physical, electrical, civil, and communication design studies, calculations, drawings, exhibits, and specifications.
• Assist the Project Manager in planning and executing best‑in‑class projects, including client and stakeholder coordination, training and mentoring of design staff, project quality assurance, and oversight of design engineers and support staff.
• Coordinate completion of specialized tasks with ECI's subject matter expert groups such as Distribution Studies, Transmission Studies, Grounding Studies, Protection, Civil Engineering, Communications (SCADA Integration), and Environmental Planning.

• Bachelor of Science or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 6+ years of project and design engineering experience, or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong organization and planning skills, and ability to work in a team environment.
• Commitment to quality and accuracy with willingness to meet fast‑paced project schedules.
• Advanced knowledge of power engineering principles, applicable codes, standards and design tools.
• Basic project management execution skills and ability to oversee and direct design personnel.
• PE license preferred.
• Experience in the utility or merchant power industry a plus.
• Subject to client‑mandated drug and background checking.
• Occasional travel/driving required; subject to ECI's auto insurance carrier requirements.
