Position Overview
Project Engineer – Portland, OR (Tigard, OR).
ResponsibilitiesConceptual, preliminary and final detailed design of new, upgraded and expanded substations, including material procurement, construction and commissioning/startup support through energization. Development and delivery of physical, electrical, civil and communication design studies, calculations, drawings, exhibits and specifications. Assist the Project Manager in planning and executing best‑in‑class projects, coordinating with clients and stakeholders, training and mentoring design staff, ensuring project quality, and overseeing design engineers, designers, drafters and support staff.
Coordinate specialized tasks with ECI’s subject matter experts in Distribution Studies, Transmission Studies, Grounding Studies, Protection (relay coordination and settings), Civil Engineering, Communication (SCADA Integration), Transmission & Distribution Engineering, Environmental Planning, Surveying, Lands/Right‑of‑Way, and Project Management/Controls.
- Bachelor of Science or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 6+ years of project and design engineering experience, or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organization and planning skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Commitment to quality and accuracy, and a willingness to meet fast‑paced project schedules.
- Advanced knowledge of power engineering principals, applicability of codes, standards and design tools.
- Basic project management execution skills and ability to oversee and direct design personnel on a project team.
- Experience in utility or merchant power industry is a plus.
- PE license is preferred.
- Must be subject to client‑mandated drug and background checking.
- Occasional travel/driving required; subject to ECI’s auto insurance carrier requirements.
