JOB TITLE: Urology Medical Assistant
SUPERVISOR: Branch Manage/Office Supervisor
HOURS PER WEEK: 40hrs/Non-Exempt (Monday - Friday 7:30am - 4:30pm)
DEPARTMENT: Clinical/Nursing
This position may be asked to cover providers at our NTE office occasionally. Looking for skilled Medical Assistant for busy, procedure driven department. Will be trained to work independently within the department. This position also handles detailed administrative work including prior authorizations, med refills and in‑baskets.
HIRING BONUS: $1,000 after 90 days

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Deliver evidence‑based care to enhance the comfort and well‑being of urology patients. This includes preparing equipment, instruments and assisting the physician during examination and treatment.

- 1. Prepare patients for exam or treatment by proper set up of the exam/treatment room and rooming the patient utilizing The Portland Clinic’s (TPC) rooming protocol, including accurate measurement of vital signs and complete documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).
- 2. Prioritize and communicate patient concerns and make appropriate decisions regarding communicating and coordinating with clinicians for follow up. Make complex cognitive decisions in relationship to the department.
- 3. Assists the physician during procedures and exams specific to the urology department such as cystoscopy, vasectomy, bladder biopsy, and prostate biopsy, among others.
- 4. Perform diverse aspects of catheter‑related patient care, including catheter insertion, Foley and suprapubic catheter changes, troubleshooting, flushing, and providing patient instruction and supply set‑up related to self‑catheterization as ordered by the physician.
- 5. Prepare patients and conduct Urodynamic testing as ordered by the physician.
- 6. Performs various clinical support visits including post‑op visits, bladder installations, bladder irrigation, catheter management, percutaneous tibial nerve stimulation, bladder scans, various injections, dressing changes, etc. as ordered by the physician.
- 7. Clean exam and procedure rooms throughout the day as required by OSHA and as needed.
- 8. Manage a desk in both an individual and group setting by scheduling patients, computer data entry, in‑basket management including but not limited to the following: patient call back messages, MyChart messages, prescription requests, results, referral messages/work queue, staff messages, processing prior authorizations and other items outlined by the department. Also, the management of incoming and outgoing phone calls, proper documentation within the EHR, following TPC and HIPAA guidelines, and monitoring provider and clinical support schedules (and other schedules as needed by the branch/department).
- 9. Clean and prepare instruments for autoclaving following OSHA and TPC guidelines/policies for the prevention of the spread of blood borne pathogens, properly using safety and personal protective equipment (PPE).
- 10. Clean and organize shared work areas including exam rooms, nursing station, utility rooms and supply areas, maintaining accurate documentation in logbooks/checklists as required.
- 11. Participate as an active care team member in a patient‑centered medical home.
- 12. Assist and train others as needed. Work under the general supervision of a licensed healthcare provider (MD, NP, PA, RN, or LPN at direction of a RN). Attend nursing meetings and in‑services. Participate in clinic committees as requested by supervisors or management.
