Compass Oncology – the largest privately‑owned Cancer Care and Research Facility in the Pacific Northwest – is seeking a Patient Care Coordinator to join our high‑impact team. This role requires someone who is adaptable, multi‑faced, and willing to jump in wherever needed, even beyond their usual scope of responsibilities. In a team environment, collaboration, flexibility, and a proactive approach are essential to support each other and provide an exceptional patient experience.
Employment Type: Full‑Time, 40 Hours M‑F
Location: West Cancer Center (Tigard, Oregon)
Salary Range: $19.17–$27.71 Per Hour
Final offer amounts are determined by candidate experience, expertise, and internal employee equity considerations.
Job Scope: Under general supervision, serves as a Care Coordinator in scheduling a variety of patient appointments: office visits, lab appointments, chemotherapy appointments and tests as indicated by the Provider. May include outside scheduling and the coordination of outside referrals. Serves as a resource and liaison between patient and other medical staff. Answers incoming calls, triages calls appropriately to the correct department or healthcare provider.
Accuracy, efficiency, and excellent time management are crucial as a Patient Care Coordinator. Familiarity with standard medical concepts and medical office practices is required. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.
Responsibilities- Demonstrates an understanding of patient confidentiality to protect the patient and clinic/practice.
- Accurately and efficiently schedules patient medical appointments to include office visits, labs, chemotherapy, and other ancillary appointments as ordered by the Provider in the computer system.
- Assists patients in coordinating external referrals as ordered by the provider.
- Obtains and maintains accurate patient demographics and insurance information and communicates changes appropriately.
- Researches and responds to routine and non‑routine patient inquiries in a timely and professional manner, seeking assistance from more seasoned coworkers or a supervisor on complex issues.
- Answers all incoming calls, assesses callers’ needs, directs to appropriate personnel, pages clinic personnel as needed, and obtains and communicates messages in an accurate and timely manner using the patient portal.
- Develops and maintains positive and collaborative working relationships across all departments and staff.
- Attends weekly team huddles led by the provider to discuss patient cases and work collaboratively to ensure quality care.
- Actively participates in departmental and inter‑departmental staff meetings, work groups, or other collaborative efforts as needed.
- Acts as a resource for all clinic staff, including training, shadowing, and onboarding.
- Demonstrates reliability and punctuality by consistently showing up on time and maintaining dependable attendance to support team operations and organizational goals.
- High School diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred.
- At least two (2) years of office experience, preferably in a medical setting.
- Knowledge of medical terminology highly desired.
- Ability to apply critical thinking in reading, interpreting, and executing provider orders.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to assess when it is appropriate to adjust priorities based on patient or clinic needs.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to articulate information and questions effectively.
