About Canterbury Animal Hospital
Canterbury Animal Hospital is a small boutique clinic that believes in the best medicine. We recently added a state-of-the-art dental suite. Located on the border between Portland Metro and the city of Tigard, we treat a range of patients from pampered pets to working dogs. Our managing doctor supports a growing DVM team and mentors externs.
Externship OverviewStudents will work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans and diagnostics, dentistry services, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. In addition to practicing clinical skills, student externs will have the opportunity to practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Most externship experiences range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.
Eligibility and StipendVeterinary students who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Information on stipend amounts and details on the stipend program is available.
