Job Overview

The Department of Consumer & Business Services (DCBS) administers state laws governing workers’ compensation, occupational safety and health, financial institutions, insurance companies, and building codes. This position is within the Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Division (Oregon OSHA) and is represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU).
Responsibilities- Conduct health evaluations and investigations of workplaces.
- Take enforcement action to ensure employer compliance with the Oregon Safe Employment Act.
- Provide technical training to employers and employees.
- Offer abatement assistance to help employers achieve compliance.
- Maintain and write reports on inspections, investigations, and enforcement actions.
- Collaborate with other state agencies and stakeholders to promote safe work environments.
- Four years of industrial hygiene program experience in a major industry.
- OR a bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 45 credit hours in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health, Chemistry, a related physical or biological science, Ergonomics, or Industrial Engineering, and one year of industrial hygiene program experience in a major industry.
- OR an associate degree in Industrial Hygiene and two years of industrial hygiene program experience in a major industry.
- Graduate level courses in any of the above subject areas are desirable and may substitute for a portion of the required experience on a credit‑hour basis.
- Transcripts must be submitted for all required and/or related courses.
- Strong technical industrial hygiene program knowledge.
- Outstanding professional communication skills, including verbal and written skills.
- Strong problem‑solving skills, and the ability to assist other staff with problem solving.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups.
- Experience making independent decisions.
- Preference may be given to applicants who are able to speak, read, and write Spanish fluently.
