Carpenter – Commercial Remodel (Portland, OR) Job Description
This role supports a commercial furniture retail remodel project at a mall in Portland, Oregon. You will work onsite full-time, starting with rough carpentry tasks such as framing, hanging drywall, boarding up removed windows with plywood, and wood blocking windows. As the project progresses, your focus will shift to finish carpentry, including installing fixtures, door hardware, trim, and related details to complete the space to a high standard.
Responsibilities- Perform wood and metal stud framing for interior commercial construction.
- Hang, secure, and align drywall panels to framing in accordance with project specifications.
- Board up removed windows with plywood and install wood blocking to secure and protect openings.
- Carry out rough carpentry tasks, including layout, cutting, and installation using tape measures and power tools.
- Transition to finish carpentry duties toward the end of the project, including installing trim, fixtures, and door handles and hardware.
- Assist with cabinetry and other detailed carpentry work as needed to complete the remodel.
- Interpret and work from construction blueprints and drawings to ensure accurate installation.
- Use power tools and hand tools safely and efficiently throughout all phases of the project.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in a busy commercial mall environment.
- Collaborate with the onsite construction team to meet project deadlines and quality standards.
- Proven carpentry experience in commercial construction environments.
- Demonstrated proficiency in metal stud framing.
- Strong skills in hanging and securing drywall.
- Experience with plywood sheathing and wood blocking windows.
- Ability to perform both rough and finish carpentry, including trim work and fixture installation.
- Capability to read and interpret blueprints and construction documents.
- Competent use of power tools and hand tools commonly used in carpentry.
- Accurate measurement skills using a tape measure.
- Reliability to work full-time, 10-hour days, Monday through Friday.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with cabinetry installation in commercial or retail settings.
- Background in working on remodel projects in occupied or high-traffic environments such as malls.
- Comfort working independently and as part of a larger construction team.
- Ability to adapt from structural tasks to detailed finish work as project needs change.
- Personal set of basic carpentry tools suitable for rough and finish carpentry work.
You will join a large, established general contractor known for managing a wide variety of significant projects and for self-performing much of its work, which can provide strong continuity of employment. Although this assignment is initially a three-month project, there is potential for longer-term opportunities in the area as additional work is bid and awarded. You will gain experience on a high-visibility commercial remodel, work consistent full-time hours, and build your portfolio with complex, hands-on carpentry work.
WorkEnvironment
This position is based onsite at a mall in Portland, Oregon, supporting a commercial furniture retail remodel. You will work Monday through Friday, 10-hour days, with a typical schedule ending at approximately 5:00 PM. The role is structured as a three-month contract tied to the project timeline, with potential for continued work after the initial launch depending on future projects. The environment is an active construction site within a retail setting, requiring awareness of surrounding mall operations and adherence to safety practices.
You will regularly use power tools, hand tools, tape measures, and other standard carpentry equipment, and you are expected to bring your own basic carpentry tools. Work will include both rough and finish carpentry tasks, often at varying heights and in partially completed spaces.
This is a Contract position based out of Tigard, OR.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.
