Mechanical Engineer (ONSITE, Tinley Park, IL)
My client is seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer to lead mechanical product development efforts from concept through completion of the company’s inertial sensor products. In this position, the Mechanical Engineer will collaborate closely with a cross‑functional engineering team to integrate subsystems through analysis, thermal and vibration modeling, and finite element analysis (FEA) to ensure robust product performance.
This role is 100% onsite in Tinley Park, IL. The schedule is Monday through Thursday for 10‑hour shifts, off on Friday’s.
Base pay range$90,000.00/yr - $/yr
Key Responsibilities- Lead mechanical design product development efforts from concept through production, including concept generation, design (CAD), analysis, prototyping, test/verification, and transition to manufacturing partners.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to integrate mechanical designs into larger systems.
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for design and production issues.
- Develop and present materials for Program Management Reviews (PMRs), Technical Interchange Meetings (TIMs), and design reviews.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering required;
Master’s degree preferred - 5+ years of experience in mechanical engineering
- Proficiency in 3D CAD (Solid Works preferred)
- Design, analysis, and verification of embedded systems including electronics packaging & thermal management. Understanding of the dynamic response (thermal, vibration, etc.) affecting critical operational parameters and reliability.
- Good understanding of technical drawing best practices and GD&T (ASME Y14.5, ASME Y14.100)
- Design for manufacturing experience (FMEA, DFM and DFT)
- Demonstrated critical thinking skills, ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem‑solving environment to produce innovative solutions to challenging problems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills across all organizational levels.
- Experience in the design, development, production, and testing of inertial sensors and inertial navigation systems
- FEA experience (ANSYS, Solid Works Simulation preferred)
- Experience with MIL‑STDs and qualification testing
- Hands‑on experience with mechanical lab and environmental test equipment, i.e., vibration tables, temperature chambers, etc.
- Strong team collaboration skills and openness to feedback from peers and leadership.
