This role will primarily focus on reviewing current estate plans (if applicable) and estate enhancement options to best fit each client’s needs. The manager will understand and meet delivery dates and participate in internal collaboration meetings. An understanding of trust agreement language and the Uniform Principal and Income Act (UPIA) is essential.
Responsibilities
- Research basic to complex estate matters across disciplines (trust and estate case law), with a primary focus on income/estate tax matters, using tax research products (e.g., Bloomberg BNA, RIA Checkpoint).
- Prepare written deliverables (emails, memos, Excel matrices) that document client issues and facts, apply guidance, and provide conclusions about estate matters.
- Respond to internal and external client and firm associate requests in a timely, accurate, professional manner.
- Communicate with engagement leaders regarding open items or important matters, and meet budgets and deadlines.
- Perform estate tax calculations using Microsoft Excel or other available systems.
- Participate in developing standardized approaches to improve quality and time-to-delivery of estate plan solutions.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience with individuals, fiduciary, estate and gift compliance
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or equivalent combination of education and experience
- CPA certification required in the state of practice
- Knowledge of wealth transfer planning vehicles and understanding of trust agreement language
- Experience with income tax and estate value impact of various trust vehicles, including:
- Charitable remainder and lead trusts
- Spousal lifetime access trusts
- Intentionally defective grantor trust
- Qualified Personal Residence Trust
- Grantor Retained Annuity trusts
- Ability to quickly become proficient with charting estate plans derived from legal documents
- Ability to draft written correspondence explaining estate plans derived from legal documents

- Wipfli offers competitive compensation and benefits. The estimated base pay range for this role is $103,000 to $154,000, with actual offers based on location, skills, experience, licensure, and business needs.
- Eligible for annual discretionary bonus based on performance and other factors.
