Art Education Teacher

The Shore Center, a public specialized school for autistic students is seeking an Art Education Teacher for the 2026-27 School Year.

Qualifications
  • Valid New Jersey Teacher of Art certificate
  • Valid New Jersey Teacher of Students with Disabilities (TOSD) Endorsement or Teacher of the Handicapped Certification preferred
  • Experience teaching autistic students
  • Knowledge of therapeutic art approaches :
    Emotional regulation, Self-expression, Mindfulness, Social-emotional learning, Sensory exploration
  • Develop authentic opportunities for students that build functional life and employment skills
  • Differentiate instruction to accommodate varying communication, sensory, behavioral, and physical needs.
  • Incorporate multiple art mediums, adaptive tools, assistive technology, and sensory-friendly materials.
Performance Responsibilities
  • Plan, prepare and deliver instructional learning strategies and activities including determination of appropriate principles of learning, classroom organizational structures, and level of materials.
  • Provide Art instruction to students ranging in ages (3 to 21 years old) and abilities and implement an Art program which provides appropriate learning experiences for each student.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans about Art techniques and art history.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional materials and available multimedia and computer technology to enhance learning.
  • Establish and maintain an environment that encourages creative expression while nurturing artistic abilities.
  • Expose students to a variety of art media, including drawing, painting, collage, sculpture, mixed media and computer art.
  • Assess student achievement related to desired educational goals, objectives and outcomes. Maintain appropriate assessment and evaluation documentation for institutional and individual reporting purposes.
  • Manage the behavior of students in instructional setting to ensure the environment is conducive to the learning process.
  • Take the leading role in the development of the Art curriculum.
  • Coordinate instructional activities and collaborate with other professional staff, both school and non-school based, as required to maximize learning opportunities.
  • Request assistance of and work with resource personnel as needed.
  • Manage allotted learning time to maximize student achievement.
  • Supervise and assign work to classroom aides and parent/student volunteers, if appropriate.
  • Ensure continuous communication with parents, both written and oral, to keep them informed of student progress.
  • Assist with identifying needed Art materials and supplies for each school year. Write appropriate requisitions for needed materials and supplies and submit to the appropriate personnel for processing.
  • Ensure classroom and/or instructional environment is attractive, healthful, safe, and conducive to learning and that materials are in good condition and accessible to students.
  • Participate in program-wide student activities.
  • Participate in the writing implementation of educational plans and reviews as required.
  • Work in a self-contained, team, departmental, itinerant capacity, or at a field of work as required.
  • Participate in in-service and staff development activities and staff meetings as required.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the principal and /or supervisor.
Terms of Employment

Full-time, 10 months (Part-time as needed)

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the MOESC Board's policy on evaluation of professional personnel
