The City of Tipp City is accepting applications for the position of Risk Reduction Officer

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Tipp City Fire & Emergency Services Department provides emergency medical services, fire suppression, fire prevention, and all-hazards emergency response to the City of Tipp City and Monroe Township in Miami County, Ohio. The Department serves approximately 30.8 square miles and a population of roughly 18,000 residents. The Department operates with a full-time staff consisting of a Fire & Emergency Services Chief, Risk Reduction Officer, four Captains, and twelve Firefighter/Paramedics Firefighter/EMTs, supported by approximately 25 part-time personnel and 12 volunteers.

The Risk Reduction Officer is responsible for leading fire prevention and community risk reduction efforts, including code enforcement, fire inspections, fire investigations, pre-incident planning, public education, and emergency response. The position conducts inspections and plan reviews, investigates fires and code violations, coordinates with City departments and outside agencies, maintains inspection and fire investigation records, and develops programs designed to identify hazards, reduce risk, and improve public safety.

The position also provides supervision, training, and quality improvement support to designated Department personnel.

LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS (
* within 24 months of employment)

• Ohio driver's license with clean driving record
• High school diploma or equivalent
• CPR/AED certification
• Ohio Firefighter Level II
• Ohio Fire Safety Inspector, with a minimum of 5 years of experience
• NIMS IC-100, 200, 700, & 800
• Basic fire investigator course, minimum of 40-hour length focused on NFPA 921 & 1033*
• Plans Review approved course*

• Proficiency with Microsoft 365, Bluebeam Revu or similar PDF markup software, and ESRI ArcGIS or comparable GIS applications.
• Ohio Board of Building Standards (OBBS) Residential/Limited Commercial (RLC) certification with Level 3 Fire Protection endorsement.
• Fire & Life Safety Educator Levels I & II, advanced fire investigation training (minimum 32 hours focused on NFPA 921 and 1033), and/or NAFI or IAAI fire investigator certification.
• Associate or bachelor’s degree in a related field and/or CPSE Fire Marshal credential.
