This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which includes Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance, as well as Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

Responsibilities
  • Design production, development, test, integration, and advanced manufacturing tooling and equipment for the Blue Engines, Lunar, and New Glenn business units.
  • Integrate concepts and principles of mechanical design and analysis across multiple projects in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Interpret and apply sound design and drafting standards (ASME Y14.5) when creating drawings.
  • Handle a wide range of technical design challenges related to assembly fixtures, material handlers, rotisseries, test fixtures, structural weldments, environmental chambers, and custom machines.
  • Collab with component designers, manufacturing engineers, and integration engineering to achieve cradle‑to‑grave metrics (safety, cost, quality, cycle time, delivery, reliability, life, and maintenance).
  • Manage projects, including vendor selection, fabrication, inspection, equipment installation, proof testing, and commissioning of custom tooling.
  • Set, implement, and maintain schedules and budgets to ensure project completion.
Qualifications
  • B.S. degree in Engineering or equivalent work experience.
  • 10+ years of experience designing, building, and commissioning tooling, fixtures, custom machines, or design support equipment for manufacturing, assembly, and test.
  • Experience with FEM and complex structural analysis; ability to perform hand calculations and create Free‑body diagrams.
  • Proven experience with CAD‑based design software for modeling and drafting.
  • Strong expertise in design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA), including taking products from development to rate production.
  • Proven understanding of common manufacturing materials, GD&T, and tolerance/stack‑up analysis.
  • Proven understanding of common manufacturing processes and machines such as CNC machining, manual mills and lathes, welding, sheet‑metal bending, lifting/rigging, assembly, and inspection.
Desired
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as ASME BTH‑1, aluminum design manual, and AISC.
  • Experience with custom machine design: motors, actuators, linear rails, pneumatics, hydraulics, bearings, etc.
  • Experience with Creo and Windchill CAD/PDM systems.
  • Experience with NX and Teamcenter CAD/PDM systems.
  • Experience with analysis packages such as ANSYS Workbench, FEMAP Pre/Post, NASTRAN Solver, NX Advance Simulation, etc.
