NDT Technician - Radiography (RT) - Level II - A Shift Lead radiographic inspection program for spaceflight hardware ensuring safety and compliance

The Role
This role is part of Blue Origin Operations and involves Nondestructive Testing (NDT) methods for various spaceflight systems, primarily Radiographic inspection of flight‑critical metallic and/or composite flight hardware. The position will directly impact the safety and quality of spaceflight hardware.
Shift days/times- A‑shift Monday – Thursday 6:00 AM – 4:30 PM
- Establish and maintain techniques to properly examine hardware, ensuring adherence to all safety and specification requirements
- Perform inspections using Digital Radiographic Test (DRT)
- Interpret inspection results and apply acceptance criteria identified on drawing or shop work order
- Perform all necessary daily, weekly, monthly process‑control checks
- Document and organize inspection results
- Interface/communicate with engineers and/or managers to describe inspection results
- 2+ years of Level II experience in non‑film radiography (DR or CR)
- Must be able to pass Radiographic General Test and Specific Test by week 3 (study materials provided if needed)
- Carded by a state or a certifying entity (e.g., ASNT, IRRSP) as a radiographer for X‑ray
- Must meet the minimum training requirements per NAS‑410 in radiography
- 40 hours of Radiation Safety Training
- Qualify to certify to Level II status per NAS‑410 requirements with a minimum of 800 documented hours
- Meet minimum vision requirements:
Near vision 20/25 (Snellen) at 16 ft or Jaeger No. 1 at not less than 12 ft; color perception 14‑plate Ishihara test with at least 12 panels correctly identified - Familiarity with ASTM E1742 Standard Practice for Radiographic Examination
- Familiarity with ASTM E2445 Performance Evaluation & Long‑Term Stability of CR System
- Familiarity with ASTM E2698 Standard Practice for Examination using Digital Detector Arrays
- Experience operating NDT inspection equipment and radiation safety equipment
- Ability to determine optimal parameters per defined techniques and system calibrations for inspection activity
- Experience analyzing data from metallic and composite structures
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and schematic diagrams
- Experience with MS Office products required
- Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and off‑shifts to meet critical deadlines
- Ability to lift and transport parts/inspection equipment within OSHA requirements
- Experience in both lab and field inspection environments
- Ability to earn trust, maintain positive professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted U.S. refugee or asylum seeker
- Strong desire for Eddy Current and Fluorescent Penetrant experience
- 40 hours of Digital Radiography Training and/or Computed Radiography
- Ability meet the minimum training requirements per NAS‑410 in other methods (Ultrasonics, Eddy Current, Liquid Penetrant, Magnetic Particle)
- Ability to certify in one or more of:
Ultrasonics, Eddy Current, Liquid Penetrant, Magnetic Particle, Infrared, or emerging methods (Terahertz, Laser Shearography) per NAS‑410 - Training in Computed and Digital Radiography
- Advanced Phased Array Training
- Knowledge of industry NDT standards
- Experience in a production environment, preferably in aerospace
- Experience with automated/robotic inspection equipment
- 1+ years of aerospace experience
