This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which includes Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance, supporting manufacturing and supply chain across all Blue Origin facilities.
As a collaborative, doer, and problem‑solver, you will perform development and production activities involving Nondestructive Testing (NDT) methods for various spaceflight systems. You will share in the team’s impact on assuring part integrity, quality, and life span. This position will primarily involve Ultrasonic and Eddy‑current inspections of flight‑critical metallic and/or composite flight hardware and test samples.
This role requires dedicated commitment and meticulous attention to safe and repeatable spaceflight. We seek someone who applies technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required.
Shift days/times: A Shift/1st shift Monday - Thursday (6:00 AM – 4:30 AM)
Responsibilities- Establish and maintain techniques to properly examine hardware, ensuring adherence to all safety and specification requirements.
- Perform inspections using Ultrasonic and Eddy‑Current equipment.
- Interpret inspection results and apply acceptance criteria identified on drawings or shop work orders.
- Document and organize inspection results.
- Interface with Engineers and/or Managers to describe inspection results.
- Certified to Level II status per NAS‑410 requirements in Ultrasonic and Eddy‑Current with a minimum documented experience of 800 hours.
- Meet minimum training requirements per NAS‑410 in Ultrasonic and Eddy‑Current methods.
- Pass Ultrasonic and Eddy‑Current General Test and Specific Test by week 3.
- Meet minimum vision requirements:
Near Vision 20/25 (Snellen) at 16 ft or Jaeger No. 1 at 12 ft;
Color Perception 14‑Plate Ishihara test with a minimum of 12 panels correctly identified. - Familiar with ASTM E164, ASTM E2375, ASTM E426, SAE‑ARP
4402, and other relevant standards. - Determine optimal parameters per defined techniques and system calibrations for inspection activity.
- Analyze data from metallic and composite structures and read blueprints and schematic diagrams.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office products.
- Willing to work overtime, weekends, and off‑shifts as needed to meet critical deadlines.
- Lift and transport parts and/or inspection equipment within OSHA requirements.
- Experience in lab and field inspection environments.
- Build trust, maintain positive professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
- U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or otherwise lawfully admitted into the U.S.
- Comfortable working off platforms, scissor lifts, and/or aerial boom lifts.
- Eddy‑Current Array training and experience.
- Knowledge of ASTM E2884, NASA PRC‑6509, ASTM E2700, and phased‑array training.
- Thermography training (LI and LII).
- Radiography certification (ASNT, IRRSP) and related training.
- Experience with Radiography, Eddy‑Current, Liquid Penetrant, Magnetic Particle, Infrared or emerging methods per NAS‑410.
- Four‑hour Radiation Safety Training and Digital Radiography training.
- Experience in production environment, preferably aerospace.
- Experience with automated/robotic inspection equipment.
- 1+ year aerospace experience.
