Position Overview
Position contingent upon award of contract.
Purpose and ScopePerforms a variety of engineering assignments to support project development, design changes, operations, installation, and maintenance of transportation systems to ensure safe, efficient movement for vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists, and physical security infrastructure, including CCTV, access control, and surveillance systems. Ensures robust protection of facilities through technical expertise in electronic systems, often integrating with IT networks. These systems are located at Kennedy Space Center – throughout the site, including space flight hardware processing facilities, launch pad support buildings, engineering and administrative support buildings, and other industrial and support facilities.
Responsibilities- Possess strong working knowledge of traffic signals, timing, intelligent transportation systems (ITS), and access control systems operation and maintenance.
- Perform maintenance and sustaining work, step development, design changes, analysis, or review tasks with little to no supervision, working on problems of diverse scope where data analysis requires evaluation of identifiable factors.
- Provide onsite technical guidance for new or existing equipment installation and/or modifications requiring traffic control and physical security infrastructure systems engineering expertise, and demonstrate good judgment in selecting methods and techniques to arrive at a solution.
- Stay up to date with emerging technologies and industry trends related to traffic control and physical security infrastructure systems engineering.
- Revise and add new asset information in Maximo database for assigned equipment per MAR (Maintenance Action Request) process.
- Develop and maintain job plans and preventive maintenance schedules for assigned equipment according to launch and processing operations, NASA‑STD‑5008B and industry standard requirements.
- Address and justify preventive maintenance deferrals of assigned equipment.
- Conduct site visits to investigate system problems, propose solutions and provide recommendations to restore systems.
- Propose and develop improvement plans to address systemic problems and improve overall performance of the operating equipment (improvements or modifications).
- Support shop technicians in troubleshooting issues related to assigned equipment as needed.
- Provide and review technical expertise for technical anomalies as they arise; resolve and document failure anomalies regarding assigned equipment.
- Prepare and review Technical Anomaly reports and presentations documenting problems, concerns, and resolutions for assigned equipment to the Engineering Review Board.
- Be available for emergency and relief assignments.
- Coordinate NASA and customer related mission activities to support other customers/partners launch schedule, including launch site test plan development and coordination with supporting documents, mission support training certifications and Launch Control Center console test support certifications.
- Participate in console or Red Crew operation during test and launch operations as needed for assigned systems supporting launch and processing facilities.
- Provide input to and actively participate in applicable System Health and Readiness Program (SHARP) teams.
- Develop and present or represent mission related presentations to NASA and/or EGS customer as required to present support readiness or failure concerns.
- Perform readiness assessments of assigned equipment and systems.
- Coordinate and work closely with customers, other engineering, logistics, financial, and program management disciplines to define system specifications and requirements.
- Direct interface and liaison with internal and external customers at all levels from concept to final design and commissioning activities, design reviews, and technical working group meetings to comply with requirements and specifications.
- Support development of technical proposals, statements of work and provide comments on technical content and level of effort of proposed scope of work.
